Run 43:13 [3] 5.55 km (7:47 / km) +119m 7:02 / km
shoes: Arctic Claw 300

Evening run on the hard pack at Weeks Woods by headlamp. Did the double figure 9 .
Cool and breezy, felt good once I warmed up.

Too warm for the skiing to be any good, and warm enough that wandering around outside was an option.

After yesterday's sleet and freezing rain, transitioning to today's freezing rain and rain, things were wet and icy, or more accurately icy and wet. Knew the skiing would be horrid, and not really enough snow under the ice to warrant snowshoes, so laced up the winter shoes with studs and headed to RV Farm. Roads were OK, but the parking lot was a sheet of (slanted) ice. Was going to park in front of the barn, but started sliding sideways, then backwards. Finally got the car positioned so there was a reasonable chance of getting out of there and headed out.
Trails were fine - layer of ice grains on top of mostly hard packed snow. Plenty of traction, just needed to duck under a lot of icy tree branches dipping down into the trail. Some of the low spots were more a layer of ice grains on tops of slush, or in some cases, very liquid slush.
Neat reflections back from all the ice covered branches from the headlamp - only a problem when I look up just before hitting a branch - glare right back into my eyes.

Felt a but better today than yesterday.
Warmer conditions, different skis. Rubbed some Moly TX5 on and corked it in - seemed to do the trick. Some dirty spots - could feel it dragging.
Double loop of Dry Fire, Quiver, up power line, Long Bow, Quiver and lower Broadhead. Then mixed it up a bit at a slower pace.

Mapping 2:22:22 intensity: (2:16:59 @0) + (5:01 @1) + (22 @3) 3.61 km (39:24 / km) +289m 28:08 / km
ahr:90 max:123

Short mapping session around the ski jumps and up the hill from there.
Found a new hiking trail that it appears someone is marking to get the Belknap Range Trail off the horrid old ski trail, with its washouts, round rocks and general not-fun hiking surface.

XC Ski - Skate 48:11 intensity: (2:51 @0) + (8:24 @1) + (25:50 @2) + (11:06 @3) 8.71 km (5:32 / km) +143m 5:07 / km

Not the best session, but not the worst either.
Energy was short lived, just no oomph. Skis were fairly fast, which surprised me. Had rubbed on some T4 wax prior, on top of lord-knows-what. Temps were rising pretty fast, but the sections where folks had been skiing were still firm and quick. Hit a couple sections that had been groomed but not skied and those were much slower.
Took several breaks, feeling beat after not that long skiing. Chatted with Jeff, who was wrapping up 20 miles -
Time for a nap, try again tomorrow.

ahr:124 max:144 shoes: RedFeather Race Snowshoes

Mtn Bike trails at Ahern as the snow was winding down. Maybe 4", much less on the ground under the hemlocks.
Hard to follow the trail in places - branches weighted down blocking sight lines.

Gunstock - Nordic Center, out along Maple. Oak, then up the Overlook Trail. Neat water features - a lot of ice, but quite a bit of water moving as well.
Up to the summit of Gunstock, changed into dry shirt and hat, the down the Ridge Trail to the towers and down Try Me.
Chilly, not much wind.

Chemung trails - temps were dropping and things were firming up

ahr:143 max:156 shoes: '03 Yellow Fischer Skating

Dragged my lethargic butt out of the house and headed over to Gunstock for a bit of frolicking in the snow.
Many dirty sections, between gravel pulled up by the groomer and branches, pine cones, etc. Main trails still solid, but snow was warm and slow. Whatever I have on for wax was not ideal for these conditions.
Some sections that didn't get groomed last night were glazed - not so slick that it was nerve wracking, but faster.

Warming up a bit.
Skis and me were slow. Did 1 lap of Sunday's Zac Cup course, but decided that was enough, so did a bit more poking around and called it an evening.
Headlamp did the immediate from full bright to dead on me - fortunately on a gentle grade, not one of the really fun downhills where sudden darkness would have been way too exciting.

ahr:101 max:120 shoes: Yeti classic snowshoes

Breaking out trail at Weeks Woods with the big snowshoes. Parts of it had been visited partway through the storm, with other sections untouched since before then. Upper Loop close to the fields was windblown with some great drifts.
Initially thought to do the whole double figure 8 (or is it a double 9?), but ended up with a single full figure eight, hitting the middle part of the lower loop twice in the same direction.

Not too bad once I got going and got blood flowing down to my hands.

Headlamp wander at RV Farms from the Boyd Hill parking lot. First part of the main trails has been solidly boot packed, so got off onto the mtn bike twisty trails as soon as I could. Found some that hadn't been broken out since the last snow, and a few short sections that hadn't been touched at all.
Moon was large, yellow/orange and low to the horizon - got turned around in my head a few times.
Critter tracks were neat - could see where the hidey holes were that the small critters would op out of and dash across to a tree to climb for food, then back to the den.

ahr:119 max:134 shoes: Rossignol BackCountry Skis

Banging around RV Farm in the cold most trails have been snowshoed and boot packed, but there's some with enough untouched on the side to bust through powder for the feel of off trail skiing.
Dressed warm enough - glad I slipped hand warmers into my gloves.
