Downhill Ski 45:00 [1] 17.14 km (22.9 kph) +1378m

A warm day - started to drizzle, which was fine. Snow/ice was soft as it only got down into the 40s overnight - even what looked like hard ice, I was able to get and edge.
Then the rain started to pick up. When I had a cold trickle flow down my arm and my side as I lifted the bar on the chair at the summit, I determined that my water-resistant outwear had reached its limit. So took 2 more runs to get thoroughly drenched and called it a day.

Things cooled down enough overnight that everything firmed up nicely. Unfortunately, all of the barebooters left what had been nicely groomed and flat very lumpy and bumpy. Had put a bit more air in the tires, so wasn't getting much cushion from them. Some sections hadn't been hit with the groomed, which ended up very narrow and uneven. Tried riding that but kept falling off one side of the rail or the other into the deeper stuff, where I'd just bog down. Took my bike for a walk along most of it until I got the the sno-mo trail, which was divine. Rode that down the hill and along 11-A, but where I was planning on riding back up was untouched. Walked my bike up that long hill - post-holing occasionally. Rode one of the narrow trails from the top of the hill down that they hit with the narrow snowdog a week or so ago - was great, other than where some dogs (or deer) had churned it all up.

Temps in the low 40s, maybe got to mid-30s overnight. Snow mostly hard packed - but not solid ice. Wonderful coverage on the trails - the section of Cobble coming back up along the road under the power lines was great - no grit at all. They'd made a tremendous amount of snow in the stadium earlier in the winter and spread it out in all the right places.
Slick and fast still in the shade, even though I wasn't there until after 10:00. Softening up in the sun, but not turning to slop - maybe because there weren't a lot of folks out churning it up. Some debris on the trail and dirty snow, but not as bad as I was expecting. As the more recent snow melts off the top, the dirt will keep building up as the layers holding it disappear. Hope things cool down again so they can get back out and groom - was just too wet overnight.
Skis were slow in places, but expected that with the warm temps. Think I have moly-4 on these - equivalent temp range to a red - 5 range might have been better - yellow equivalent/

After work daylight classic ski. Plenty of other folks out as well. Trails in good shape - classic track set in most places.

XC Ski - BackCountry 40:00 [1] 3.3 km (12:07 / km)
shoes: Asnes Mil surplus skis

Poking around at RV Farm as the snow died down. Ended up with over the 2-4" promised, in the 5-6" range I'd guess.
Slapped on a good layer of purple extra and corked it in - seemed to do the trick - although I wasn't pushing hard. Still got to herringbone up some hills and it wasn't sticking.
Knocked snow off a lot of branches - some planned (with my ski poles), some unplanned (with my head - with the dump going down my back).

Morning jaunt up and over, then back up and down again on Mt Rowe. Barebooted the first bit, as it was well packed out, then put on the snowshoes when the trail split and the one I was taking was less packed.
Calm and peaceful out. Along Rowe ridge past the towers, then saw they'd groomed along the top of the ridge. Debated heading further N on the ridge, but saw someone had come up the new flagged trail that mirrors the Try Me Trail. Appears that the upper half has been rerouted and flagged - takes a much better line for the most part instead of straight up/down the fall line.
Jump off that trail partway down then cut over on the short spur trail over to the powerline cut up to the towers. Bushwhacked from there, angling up a bit an came out just above where the Stonebar ski trail makes its steep drop - then up into the saddle and picked up the trail again.
Got to pack out the Benjamin Weeks Trail from where it leaves the old Weeks Rd down to the junction with the Blue Trail I went up.
Great day - warm and sunny S facing slopes.

Trails were mostly groomed, but not tracked. Some folks had been out skating, but looked like it was a bit soft for that. Fore Cut had only been track-packed earlier in the day, but fun to cruise up and then back along it.
Skintecs worked well - enough kick and glide was good.

Nice ride around exploring the sno-mo trails. Their wide groomer leaves a smooth surface - that set up nice and firm - perfect traction for fat bike tires. Where sno-mo tracks had chewed it up a bit, was more likely to scrub out - made for tough uphills and sketchy fast downhill corners. As it got warmer and things softened up a bit the corners and uphills got tougher.
Saw just a few folks out on their machines; was expecting more as nice as it was out.

Downhill Ski 1:15:00 [1]

Didn't get out early enough for the first tracks session - summit lift opens an hour early for seasons pass holders, with hot chocolate served as you get on the chair at the base.
Still wasn't too crowded when I got there about 9:15. Got in enough runs that my legs were happy. Next to last run was down Hotshot - is left ungroomed so it was a mix of uneven moguls, glare ice, hard crust on the upper half, which is also very steep. Made it down - not always gracefully, but in one piece.
Might try it again if we get a good dump of snow that would cover up the ice, but this stretches my ability and nerves.
Good times...

Nice conditions - refueled after downhill skiing for a few hours. Had enough energy and conditions were good.
Not many folks out, which was surprising.
