XC Ski warm up/down (skating) 34:00 [2] 4.7 km (7:14 / km) +65m 6:46 / km
ahr:115 shoes: '03 Yellow Fischer Skating

Skating lesson for Tim - been awhile since he's been on skis. 10-12" of fresh powder, but it's mid-30s and climbing, snow getting very wet.

XC Ski race (skating) 1:01:25 [4] *** 8.7 km (7:04 / km) +190m 6:22 / km
ahr:148 max:169 spiked:12/12c shoes: '03 Yellow Fischer Skating

Trim-O ski-o at Gunstock. Nailed all 12 controls, pretty easy to do on a ski-o.

Snow got wetter as I went around. It was melting off the trees, got nailed on the top of my head a couple of times.

What little wax I had on my skis was for much colder conditions. It seemed like I got progressively slower as I was working progressively harder. But hey - it's March, there's fresh snow and I'm skiing.

Note

Left elbow hurting a bit. Tennis elbow?

More properly xc and shoveling elbow.

Snow blower went on the fritz between driveway clearing sessions yesterday, so I moved quite a bit by hand. Using the scoop seems to put the most strain on it - mainly when I jerk the scoop out from under the load of snow.

Got the snowblower going again, but the piles I'd made along the end of the driveway were waterlogged, it just burped the slush out the chute and dribbled down the side...

XC Ski (classic) 1:30:00 [2] *** 10.0 km (9:00 / km) +250m 8:00 / km
ahr:140 max:160 spiked:14/14c shoes: Trak Waxless skiis

Setting controls for Ski-trim-O. Blizzard underway, so it was kinda neat. Gunstock didn't open, some BS about letting the snow fall and they'd be open with all trails groomed tomorrow.
Someone (Igor?) had been out with the big snocat packing stuff down earlier, but only with the tracks, no roller, so the center section was untouched. Even with the packing, it was coming down at a good clip, so I was plowing through some pretty heavy deep stuff.
It was a bit above freezing, and the snow was occasionally mixed with freezing rain/sleet/rain. I was pretty much soaked by the time I finished.

My skis are really made for intrack use - too narrow to be of much use off track. Maybe time to go bacl to my roots and get a pair of true cross country skis - wide clunkers that you can go cross country on.

Had to backtrack once, as I was hanging what I thought was the last control, I noticed I still had a flag in my backpack. Checked the number, had to go back about 700M and 3 contours to hang it - had blown right by there twice.

XC Ski (skating) 39:30 [3] 8.5 km (4:39 / km) +156m 4:15 / km
ahr:148 max:164 shoes: '03 Yellow Fischer Skating

Evening ski at Gunstock, finished under moonlight. Was actually pretty bright out in the open, but pretty dark deeper in the woods.

Lost a bit of snow in the last 2 days, hope we get some more on Thursday/Friday. Snow was glazed over in many places and starting to set up, but I could still get an edge.

In the rush to get out the door, grabbed a mis-matched pair of poles, 165 and 160. Enough of a difference that I could feel it, but still managed to get around.

Note

Knees were a bit sore after yesterday's run - need to go back and check when my last run was. Probably over a month ago. Why run when you can ski??

Almost didn't go out this evening, legs and knees sore, it's getting dark soon, need to get the student loan application for Ben in by tomorrow, it was warm today and we probably lost a lot of snow so there'll be rocks sticking up, etc.

Glad I went - it was beautiful out there, moon becoming more noticable as the sun faded off, well, into the sunset. Had the trails to myself.

As I got back to the car, there wa a guy in a van stopped there - said he'd been walking in the area and was driving home, saw my car and was concerned that someone might be hurt out on the trails. Nice to think there's still folks out there willing to be concerned about someone they don't know.

Run hills (pavement) 44:00 [3] 7.2 km (6:07 / km) +170m 5:28 / km
ahr:160 max:170 shoes: Nike Air Assail Trail

Decided to go for a run rather than ski, as it was starting to get dark, and would be darker by the time I got to Gunstock, I would expect a fer more rocks to be peeping through after a relatively warm day and my skis are in bad enough shape as it is.

Up Woodland Ave, over to Morrill St, Stark St, Sleeper Hill and back.

Only almost got run off the road once - guess a bit more reflective gear is in order.
