Orienteering long 1:45:00 [2] *** 9.0 km (11:40 / km)
shoes: Falcon spikes 2007

Running the first part of the initial design of next year's Billygoat. Really liked a few control locations and legs, and some need serious reconsideration.
Had hoped for overcast and cool, but got warm (mid-60s) and sunny. Pretty constant breeze, so I wasn't overheating too much.

Had wanted to run though the entire course, but developed a blister on the outside of my right heel that was really bothering me, so cut off just before the halfway point and checked out the last few controls on the way back in.

Visibility was pretty good, except where it wasn't. Found quite a few patches of young pine growth - which will be a problem in the areas where the contours are subtle. Not much fun floundering around in this sort of stuff searching for a bingo control.

Kayaking 1:15:00 intensity: (45:00 @1) + (30:00 @2)

Had the kayak on top of the car and decided to check out the Soucook River in Loudon on the way home. Boat launch is just beside the Rt 106 bridge. Decided to head upstream. Checked out a couple of dead end oxbows.

Saw numerous turtles sunning themselves on logs. A lot of fish jumping, some appeared to be good sized. Wish I had my fishing pole along. Current was pretty slow for the first part. After about 30 minutes, started hitting some shallower sections with faster current.

Other wildlife seen - a few muskrats, two ducks who kept flying off upriver as I got too close to them, 2 deer carcasses floating in the water, snagged on something.

A calm peaceful day on the water. Working harder for much of the upstream sections, particularly as it got shallower and faster. 45 minutes up, 30 minutes back.

Kayaking 45:00 [1]
ahr:80 max:115

At Saltmarsh Pond in Gilford - feeding the bugs in the spots where there wasn't enought breeze to keep them moving past me.

Lots of good old boys out fishing, some with kids. One group had about a half-dozen good sized trout. Saw one turtle swimming just under the surface, when it spotted me it headed to the bottom and disappeared into the muck.

Run tempo (trails) 31:00 [4] 4.5 km (6:53 / km) +80m 6:20 / km
ahr:150 max:163 shoes: Inov-8 MudClaws

Trail run at Ahern - about 1/3 on wider tracks and 2/3 on single track bike trails winding through the trees. Very pleasant light breeze, upper 60s. Was going to take it a bit easy, but found myself picking up the pace and decided to go with it.

AOWN - 1 woodchuck who I saw only because it was scurrying back to its hole, and 1 wood tick that I picked off my leg on the drive back home.
