Orienteering 1:30 intensity: (30 @1) + (1:00 @2) ***
shoes: Gray Nike XCR

Putting out the last few contrls just prior to, and picking up about 2/3 of them afterwards.

As I was driving over, the heavens opened and I got drenched putting out the directional signs. Was getting set to go hand the last few controls, when I realized that I'd left the orange box of map casees in the garage. With things as wet as they were, my maps wouldn't survive the time it would take me to hang the last few controls, plus would certainly need them for the event. Back home and back to Ahern, during which time the rains tapered off.

Jogged slowly around the loop hanging the controls on or close to the trail. got back to the car and saw that the gate was still closed - and the first folsk, the Ruutoiplds were pulling in. Greeted them and rapidly started formulating a plan B, as the Bundschuhs and Taburs arrived.

Ended up doing registration out of the back of my car, then sending folks the 500 m down the trail to the beach-front cabin, where Pete took a clock and a clipboard for a self-service start/finish setup.

Low to moderate turn-out, but good response to the courses. With Aanika and Tiivo runnning Yellow and White, all the courses were used, so no effort wasted on that account. Had a few adventure racers show up - they did OK - might have been better if I'd had an Orange level course set, but the sprints were short enough and most controls close enough together that they got through it OK. They seemed psyched at the end and excited that they'd gotten all the controls.

shoes: Falcon spikes 2007

Hanging controls for Sunday. Still noting a few map refinements in my mind to be added to the base map prior to printing.

Orienteering 45:00 intensity: (3:30 @2) + (18:30 @3) + (23:00 @4) **** 4.23 km (10:38 / km) +90m 9:37 / km
ahr:142 max:169 spiked:16/19c shoes: Inov-8 MudClaws

Pre-running one of this weekend's sprints courses and part of the second one. Still a couple of map corrections to make, had mis-hung one of the streamers.

Should be runnable in under 18 minutes - 2.2 km.

Was very wet - off and on thunderstorms for most of the past 24 hours. Marshes pretty full, leaves and branches very wet also, so got soaked in short order. Felt good to be out in the woods pushing it.

Took it easy around the first third of the second sprint, stopped a few times to figure out what was screwed up with the map.

Cut it short to do...

Run intervals (trail) 2:40 [5] 0.6 km (4:27 / km) +40m 3:20 / km
ahr:144 max:170 shoes: Inov-8 MudClaws

4x 160 m intervals up the trail from the upper parking up to the power lines. Would have done more, but there were 2 women with 4 dogs they didn't seem interested in keeping under control. "They're friendly, just loud..."
Yeah , when you're trying to do hill intervals, it really messes you up to have dogs darting around underfoot barking and stuff.
