Orienteering race 32:44 [4] *** 3.44 km (9:31 / km) +175m 7:35 / km
ahr:146 max:162 13c shoes: Falcon spikes 2007

Green course at the Hollis wet-fest 3.44 km straight line, 4.1 km per Garmin. Wet drizzly, mid-60s, not unpleasant at all.

A couple of mindless bobbles, #2 if I'd shifted right a couple of orchard rows, and/or paid attention to the contours, wouldn't have over run. 1:45
#5 - Very short leg that I made 3 times as long, didn't get far enough right to the stonewall and dropped too far, and had to climb back up. :30
#12 - trying to pull ahead of 3 adventure racers, came around the corner of the field and dropped too far again, not stopping in the first large gaps between rows, droppped an extra 3 contours. 2:00

Got beat by Bill Pullman, Tim Parsons, possibly Ben Parsons and Alar R also.

Walking 33:00 [1] 2.6 km (12:42 / km) +60m 11:23 / km
shoes: Gray Nike XCR

Short stretch out walk around the neighborhood after an afternoon of too much food.

Morning run at Ahern to check out some new bike trails and contemplate course design. Found a a completely new (to me) bike trail on the W side of the spur trail to the industrial park that I'd never seen before. A lot of puddles from the rain overnight and the past few days, so my feet were soaked.

Orienteering 50:00 [2] ** 4.0 km (12:30 / km)
ahr:105 max:128 shoes: Gray Nike XCR

Evening session to flag some control locations. Changed a couple around a bit, have to adjust the map in a couple of places. Brought my head lamp with me, as it was dusk when I started. Got really dark in the woods, but still enough light to see the map in the clearings. Bugs weren't too bad.

Run (trails) 35:00 intensity: (10:00 @3) + (25:00 @4) 5.2 km (6:44 / km) +250m 5:26 / km
ahr:152 max:165 shoes: Inov-8 MudClaws

Inaugural run with the Garmin 405.
Couple of observations -
Need to lock the bezel before I take off - kept getting the training partner screen - which I wasn't interested in.
Got satellite lock much faster than with the FRWD unit.

Was alternating between mist and rain the whole time I was out, but felt good. Running trails at Ahern, started with a complete lap on the main loop (12:13 for the 2 k loop), then circled back and down the spur trail to the indistrial park and back on bike trails.

Note

Checked out the functionality of Garmin Training Center, and then downloaded QuickRoutes. A good combination of features - really like being able to load in the map file to QUickRoutes and overlay the GPS track - had to do some tweaking (some of the issues might have been with the map), but it helped me refine a couple sections of bike trail.

Run (pavement) 30:00 [3] 3.8 km (7:54 / km)
ahr:154 max:164 shoes: New Balance 882

Evening run on the Blackstone River Bikeway - an exploratory outing.

Didn't bother to look at the map by the parking lot - took a left at the end of the spur connecting the parking area to the trail, ended up at the I-295 rest area where the trail ended. Back the way I came, past the parking connector, and found out that this was all a spur off the main trail. Crossed the river, and headed north up the main trail. Went as far as the interstate overpass, then turned and headed back.

Didn't feel like I was moving fast, but my HR was up there.
