Checking out possible ski-o/snowshoe trail enhancements at Gunstock. A surprising amount of snow out in the woods - been fooled byu the melting on the trails out in the sun. Should have used my bigger Axis snowshoes.

Found a few areas where adding trails would add some interest to route choice. Limited in the area of the race trails by some significant ditching they've done on the uphill side to control water flow. Also, quite a bit of the downhill side has some sizable drop-offs as the trails been built up. There are some sections of woods that are pretty thick, but nothing that a few minutes with a chainsaw wouldn't fix.

Went up to the top/east seciton of the old upper trails and bushwhacked around the east side of Cobble - Igor has mentioned he'd like to cut a ski trail through there, but also assessing for snowshoe trail possibilities.
First hundred meters is a nice flat shoulder, then over a stone wall and it goes to crap. Steep side slope, a lot of blowdown, ledge, etc.

Putzing back and forth watching the classic races at Gunstock.
Besides a few warm mushy spots, trails in very good shape.
Some impressive skiing - a lot of double poling going on, and not the "my kick wax is shot, so all I have left is double poling" technique delivered with a hint of resignation, but all out "this is the fastest way to get from point A to point B, so even if this is a long gradual uphill, I'm double poling my ass off and going fast".

Alex J looking very strong at the height of land on the east side of Cobble - should have spent more time down by the turns to see how smooth she and others handled those.
A few old folks out racing - had a couple twinges of "get up off your butt, enter some races like this and see how you stack up", but they passed.
