Final official day at Gunstock - Downhill area closes today also.
Got out early, so it was nice and fast. Starting to soften in just a few places, but icy elsewhere. Groomer didn't hit 4, so it was icy and uneven - should be OK when it warms up. Did get the Rock Loop, it was nice.
Out on Birch, up onto Oak, then down Oak along the stream. Trail loops in the meadow, then groomer headed back up Oak, without getting the connector. Maple was nice, s-curve was fast and icy, but there was enough texture to maintain some semblance of control. Should have reversed and come back up Maple, but kept going with the thought of going up the Cobble S-curve. Grommer had been up and down that part of Cobble, but didn't have the tail down until the top of the hill, so it was chunky. Took my skis off and walked up it.
Hit 50 km/hr coming back down the hill on the east side of Cobble - think that's my speed record for the year. Glad there was no one at the bottom, was a bit on the edge coming around that corner.
Will probably be able to get out once or twice more - still plenty of cover. Might try an up and down on the downhill slopes - when i'm nice and rested and in the mood for a hill workout.

Gunstock reopened with 6 or 7" of new wet snow. Very slow, was double poling down some of the hills. They didn't groom all of the stuff that was still good before this snow - hoping it gets hit again tonight and they include the rest - might even make it into next weekend.
Was chatting with Paul and Neal after skiing for an hour, mentioned how slow my skis were. Neal grabbed them, slapped on some flouro and rilled them (making comments about ancient equipment) then handed them back to me. Couldn't just get in the car and head home, so went out and skied for another 30 minutes. Skis were a bit faster, but it was still soft and wet.

Taking advantage of good snow cover while it still remains.
Working on technique under less than optimal conditions, slog through the warm sections, then hold on when it's icy. Almost lost it on a nice downhill, feelign the suction of the water from the warm corn snow, then all of a sudden my skis just took off, almost leaving me behind.
Two young kids out with their moms on the stadium - other than that, had the place to myself.

Short trail run at RV Farms on the way home. Soft in some places, hard packed in others. A few short sections where it was bare - and surprisingly dry.
Glad I had studded shoes on in a few spots. Was like trekking through loose sand where it was warm, very variable footing.

Back again, once it warmed up a bit. Feels like early February.
thinngs had softened up a bit in most places - still some untransformed packed powder in spots.
Hard and glazed in a few spots, but still very good conditions.
