Hiking 2:45:00 [2] 7.5 km (22:00 / km) +565m 15:59 / km
shoes: Merrell Radius Hikers

With Jon - Base of the Carriage Rd, up the Red Trail to Piper, then Orange and White Trails to Belknap, down Blue and up Yellow to Gunstock, then down the Gunstock Mtn Trail.

A bit of nice powder over various other stuff, ice, slick ice, soft ice, wet ice, as well as some bare rock.

Jon trying out his new Yaktraks - moderate degree of success - they might be a size to large for his relatively small feet.
I had on a pair of low end traction devices from BJs - detachable studs that fit into a rubber piece that stretches over your boot. Worked good on uphills - could have used a bit more bite on the downhills.

Distance and climb from similar trail run just over a year ago.

Ahern - mtn bike trails mostly run in already - lumpy and uneven. Nice and clear. Saw one couple out on snowshoes along the main loop trail - where there was no need for snowshoes, but they were happy.
Hard to follow some of the smaller trails that no one had been along yet - snow covers treadway and everything else very well - judge by openings between trees, no low hanging branches, and memory.

A few more trails with a bit of snow cover - they rolled almost everything, but other than the short loop with the manmade base it was a bit of packed powder over hard ice. Glad I had rock skis.

A few folks out and about.

Around and around at Gunstock = from the pole just across from the XC center, through the stadium, Dryfire (just the first chunk), up Chute, Quiver to the stadium, and on to the pole.

Just over 800 m each time. Did some double poling, and a couple laps no poles.

Getting soft and churned up on the up hills and the snow gun going in the stadium. Beard quickly covered with ice - guess it's better than having ice directly on my skin.

Short get-the-lead-out run at RV Farms. Pretty horrid conditions - very glad I was wearing spiked shoes. Uneven ice, a lot of trees / branches hanging down into the trail.

Taking it easy on the right foot still with PF issues - wearing an arch support insert, but still not wanting to land on that heel directly, so good forefoot placement practice.

Note

Went over to Gunstock planning to ski on whatever they had open, but sign on the XC Center door was "Reopening on Thursday with a 1 km loop on manmade snow."
Walked across the road - stadium was a solid uneven sheet of hard packed ice. At least there's a big pile of manmade waiting to be spread around.
