Reverse route of Wednesday's run. 2" of fresh wet powder, over variable ice/crust/bare ground. Glad I had studded shoes. Quite a few tracks heading out - looked like most folks stayed to the right and went around the blue loop trail. Someone had been out earlier with snowshoes, no need for them with so little new snow.

Knowing it would be wet, tried my Goretex "dry-socks". Come up to just below mid-calf, slight elastic which kept them up better than I thought would be the result. Wore ankle high thin socks under then, as I thought the feel of Goretex right against my skin would be a bit clammy once I got warmed up. Other than making the fit of my shoes a bit tighter, this seemed to work. Feet seemed to stay pretty dry, went into muck a couple of times. Could feel the coldness through the fabric, but no moisture came through. Feet sweated enough that the socks were wet at the end, but it was just sweat, not cold water/mud from outside.

Probably be real good for slower speed endeavors in wet weather where overheating and sweating is less of a factor.

Late afternoon ski at Gunstock - pretty fast in most places, exceptions were right by the snow gun, which was fresh blow powder and where it was excessively gritty.

Just a few folks out and about.

Ice run on RV Farm trails.
First run in a bit, felt OK. Things had mostly firmed back up after yesterday's deluge. Rutted ice in some places where there'd been more traffic, packed granular for most of the rest.
A lot of fat bike traffic on most of the trails - wonder how they do on hard ice?
3/4 moon - pretty much enough light to run by, except right under the hemlocks. Had 2 headlamp batteries, first one crapped out after 10 minutes, swapped over and only used the second one in a few spots.
Moon shining through thin cloud cover, creating an iridescent halo around it - really neat effect.

Finally got warm enough that the wimps like me could come out of the woodwork.
Still not a lot of oomph, but overall felt better than I have in a while during a longer ski. So-so conditions, some grit in a few places. Some trails had been rolled after the last snowfall, and were a bit uneven, but skiable.

New forecast is for 3-7" before changing to rain in the morning.
