Mapping 2:23:52 [3] 3.71 km (38:47 / km) +22m 37:40 / km
shoes: New Bal 572 Trail

Met up with Deb H - talked through the challenges of mapping degrees of green in this area. From one angle looks like slow run to walk, then move over 10 feet and look from another angle and it appears to be light green.

Starting to think of control locations to support military 'land nav' courses. The Adjutant General has done some orienteering with UNO, and was not satisfied with the results in the Guard best warrior competition land nav event. Very reliant on pace and dead reckoning, after having to plot the controls locations onto a topo map given grid coordinates. Might still have to deal with plotting control locations onto the map, but I'm aiming for something other than a series of 'flag in the forest' control points.

Trimmed back the trace. Thought I'd hit stop on the watch - guess not.

Control pickup - 2nd half. Felt good to be out and moving. Slightly less delay in untying control flags.
Nice trail run at first to get out to the almost furthest point, then looped in from there.

Control pickup at Carye Woods. Northern loop this evening, left the southern loop around the marsh for another day.
Took forever to untie the first control - thinks this was the windiest location. Flag had been doing some spinning and the end of the tiestring had been spinning the other direction.
Lot's of songbirds out and about. Need to study up on IDing them by calls / songs - cause was only catching quick glimpses of most of them,
