Orienteering race 1:12:16 [4] 6.4 km (11:17 / km)
shoes: Jalas Black FLX09

British champs Wharncliffe & Greno M40S 4/12. Another mixed bag of feelings & fortune. Got lost on the way driving to the event which got me all panicky before even starting & transfered this panic into my race. 11mins total errors:
60secs @ CP4 lost map contact, but relocated well
120secs @ CP6 lost map contact & changed route midway through
120secs @ CP7 caught out by taped section
360secs @ CP15 miss in the circle, had to relocate twice!!!

Overall...kicking myself for silly errors, but have to take heart from having 7/17 fastest splits. Besides, theres always next year. Looking forward to the Scottish champs in a fortnight.

Donalds 1:30:00 [2] 9.0 km (10:00 / km)
shoes: Jalas Black FLX09 (2nd pair)

Garelet Dod & Erie Hill (both Donald's) & Garelet Hill. Parked at Talla Linfoots & ran up the track to Gameshope Castle...brilliant wee glen with plenty of cascading waterfalls, deep swimming pools all flanked by steep hills. Couldnt get over the burn easily so had to go as far as Crunklie Moss before crossing, nice climb through the clouds onto the ridge. Garelot Dod is quite featureless but reckon you'd get fab views from here on a nice day. Easy route following the fence to the short, sharp Erie Hill then onto Garelot Hill. The direct route off the hill was really steep so was on my arse on more than one occasion, then a deep fording of the burn. Brilliant route...a wee gem.
