Orienteering race (Troll Cup Classic) 1:18:17 [4] **** 5.2 km (15:03 / km)
shoes: Inov8 Oroc 280

OK to control to 3, and then a spectacular brain implosion. Worst befuddlement for years. After that, I never did regain any focus, and just plodded around cause I've always felt compelled to finish no matter how bad the day.

OTOH, a really fine weekend. And the now achy trashed body is actually a satisfying feeling, one that I've missed. Also looking forward to showing off the many scratches I incurred today, including a nice pair down one side of my face. Cool.

Main conclusion from the weekend is that after a year off not only has my fitness greatly suffered but so has my orienteering. So many silly bobbles in the circles, and lousy route choices. Lots to work on, including attending to my eyesight. Sport is definitely more fun when you can read the map.

Orienteering race (Troll Cup Prelim) 36:31 [4] 2.6 km (14:03 / km)
shoes: Inov8 Oroc 280

Decent enough effort, until leaving 11, where upon I tried to navigate from 10 to 11 again. Door knob.

Orienteering race (Troll Cup Final) 47:31 [4] **** 3.5 km (13:35 / km)
shoes: Inov8 Oroc 280

Sloppy, silly errors in the circles, but held it more or less together until the leg from 10 to 11. Decided instead to navigate from 10 to 3. Barf.

Orienteering (UMass) 25:30 [4] 2.7 km (9:27 / km)
shoes: Pro Grid 7

Phil's training session at U. Mass, great fun.

Listened in on Phil's intro tutorial to the beginners, brilliantly done, best I've heard. Maybe all those years as a prof count for something ;).

And then this year's best senior moment so far. Met up with Phil to pick up the controls flags for next week. He gave me a lift back to my car. Thanked him, jumped out of his car, and waved goodbye as he drove off, with the controls still in his car ... gawd, I'm such a looooooser.
