Orienteering race 1:09:16 [3]

Ponkapoag Pond
Too hot, some small disasters.

1-2 I didn't pay enough attention on the way in, so started to panic about not having a clue what boulders I was looking at. The spur to the north saved be and I knew to go further
3-4 Decided to go straight through the marsh. It looked like just a small rocky marsh on the way in, but turned into a full swamp with lots of water and incredibly thick vegitation half way. As I was stuck trying to hop between bits of land, I looked over and saw a WCOC jersey. It turned out Gail had also decided this would be fun. The last bit required almost crawling under bushes trying to not just crawl through the mud. Afterwards Giacomo said he ran right through the swap a little bit to the east with no problem.
9-10 I ran around the north side of the hilltop, through some cool giant boulders, and then planned to cut diagonally down the hill and come in on the reentrant. Came down to far north and had to circle back around to hit the control from the bottom. I was standing 6ft from it at one point and couldn't see it.
12-13 I planned to run down the ridge, but fell off to the north. I should have just gone left or right to the trail from the start, and wasted a bunch of time trying to fight my way through the woods.

Giacomo caught up to me on the way to 15, and we both really didn't want to run into the green to get the the control. I punched just before him and then was motivated to stay ahead to the finish. There was a small unmapped trail that took you back out to the main trail, but it wiggled back and forth a lot. I tried to cut a corner, not knowing where the trail was going to go, ran my head into a tree, and came back out onto the trail saving only a few feet of running.
