Orienteering race 1:22:54 [4] 12.8 km (6:29 / km) +435m 5:32 / km

Fair Hill Day 2 Blue - managed to be clean this time with at least decent if not quite optimal route choices, thereby squeezing into second in the narrow space between Eddie and Rune. Quite pleased with the weekend overall as an indication of my terrain running fitness but unsure whether I can assume having done it once in an A event will be sufficient to inoculate me against ever skipping a control again or whether I should explicitly change something in my orienteering system to guard against possible recurrence. Sad to say, now that I have time to ponder I think the problem may have resulted from my reading ahead. Though that may not be so bad - one solution would be to never read ahead so as to maintain focus on the task at hand but it can't be all that hard to read ahead and then return my thoughts to just the current and next legs.

Hiking 1:30:00 [1]

Streamering White, Yellow and Orange courses at Bowie - all the flooded trails a nuisance for White to the point that I ended up deciding to streamer them through the woods for 50 meters as the only alternative to a more or less out and back course. Just under three hours walking around, discounted as usual.

Orienteering race 1:29:11 [4] 12.64 km (7:03 / km) +480m 5:56 / km

Fair Hill Day 1 Blue - an otherwise good run ruined by skipping 10 and not realising until I had entered the woods to attack 12, adding almost 2 kilometers of extra distance (certainly 1.5km - I haven't tried to measure precisely). Winsplits claims I would have been second without the mistake, still nearly 2 minutes behind Eddie's impressive run - apparently all the training he hasn't been logging on AttackPoint has been done to good effect.

Orienteering race 13:58 [5] 2.7 km (5:10 / km) +60m 4:39 / km

Fair Hill Sprint - a good race, only slightly off target on 6 and 8, still well adrift of Erin Schirm but handily outrunning everyone else (not including John and Eddie, who both sat this out). Glad not to have had to wait until Sunday's Blue for redemption after my howler in the classic earlier in the day.

Running 8:00 [1]

Warmup/cooldown.

Form exercises 24:00 [4]

Silly walks and 6x100m strides. Meant to have slightly more running in the week but it didn't happen. This to remind my body what it's going to have to do at Fair Hill.

Cycling 58:00 [3]

To work, with heavier gloves and ear insulation again, probably for one of the last times this season. Home again before heading off to pick up rental car.

Note

It just occurred to me to wonder which of the US standing team or the Canadian HPP is the more decrepit with injuries at the moment. Not that anyone other than Hammer is out of the fray just now but it does seem like there are quite a few chronic/acute knee/ankle/foot/hamstring injuries being trained through at the moment.

Cycling 1:26:00 [3]

A cooler work commute. In the evening to PCRM, then north to Bethesda to catch a lift with Nadim to and from a quick meeting, then home from there.

Cycling 58:00 [3]

Commute in and home again. Short sleeves only on top this time. Pollen season has definitely begun these past few days but so far all I'm getting in the way of symptoms is slightly itchy eyes.

Core exercises 8:00 [4]

Abdominal stuff only.

Strength 2:00 [2]

Hamstring exercise. Had planned on running hills in the evening but legs felt heavy enough it seemed a better idea to give them a more restful evening.

Cycling 1:08:00 [3]

Cycling to work and back by way of the pool. Daytime high made it to a ridiculous 28 Celsius so the ride home was my first in short sleeves top and bottom this year. Even the part after 8pm after leaving the pool.

Deep Water Running 1:11:00 [4]

Nothing but running. In a bad lane for viewing the clocks so just went decently hard until my leg muscles told me they'd had enough but not too much.

Cycling 1:06:00 [3]

Work commute returning by way of TPSS and tghe pool.

Swimming 28:00 [2]

A bit of swimming but mostly flutterkicking to loosen up my legs - sorely needed after the weekend.

Core exercises 10:00 [4]

While watching Prison Break. Abdominal and a few back extensions too.
