Hanging the exposed white and yellow controls.

Orienteering 35:00 [2]

Picking up nine northern controls, including the two on the fully submerged (perhaps half a foot to a foot of water everywhere, waist deep in the ditches)floodplain - jogging and picking my way across that was rather a surreal experience.

Cycling 1:55:00 [2]

Another round trip between the Greenbelt Metro and Bowie. Raining moderately hard on the way out, as it did most of the day until mid-afternoon.

Greenbelt Metro out to Bowie and Bowie to my office after control hanging and office to home after wearisome control description assembly.

Control hanging/course redesigning in light of anticipated heavy rain - too much of the terrain at Bowie is floodplain and the Patuxent was brimfull even before the rain as the managers at the Duckett Reservoir must have been trying to make room for the anticipated deluge.

Work commute in by way of the aquatic center. Directly home after work.

Equivalent of a tempo workout - could/arguably should have gone longer at this intensity but this was all I managed to force myself out of bed in time for.

Such a lot of warmup, cooldown and rest for so little intense activity!

Silly walks before hills for additional warmup.

2 sets of 10 times sprinting up a short and fairly steep hill in Rock Creek Park just west of the Taft Bridge. Each time up took 15 to 16 seconds, getting back down took about 50 seconds and I rested for not quite two minutes after descending between the two sets.

Currently seems I'll have to drive myself to Harriman so was booking a rental when I had something of a brainwave - why rent at National Airport and have to deal with getting through or around the beginning of weekend DC-exiting traffic when I can take Metro then Metrobus to BWI, avoid some carbon emissions, subject my body to less pre-race driving discomfort and probably arrive at the ETA camp earlier in the evening on Friday to boot? Surprised it never occurred to me before.

Work commute in. Again very little waiting at lights, though I didn't time the ride so precisely as yesterday. Perhaps it's not just luck with traffic conditions and my fitness is improving compared to the winter and last year. Home by way of Union Station.

Warmup/cooldown/rest between repetitions.

Running 17:36 [5] 4.8 km (3:40 / km)

No sprint races or road races since sprint at Fair Hill so 4x1200m I intervals on grass in 4:23, 4:22, 4:26 and 4:25 with slightly over 2 minutes jogging rest between reps.

Work commute in. Must have hit all the lights favourably (and I can't remember waiting at any of them) to manage it in less than 3100 actual elapsed time. Home by way of the aquatic center.
