orienteering race 34:46 [4] 5.62 km (6:11 / km) +92m 5:43 / km
shoes: Inov8 X-Talon 212 (#6 Fluro)

Oz Champs - Relay, Hill End, 1st leg M45, NSW 2nd team

Took a while to find the start triangle on the map, then made a read-ahead error while running in the right line for #1, but got there alone. Gaffling was all in the first half, could see Jemery ahead (shorter #1) and Ruhi caught me once, but I gradually closed Jem down over the second half and thought I'd got clean, but we ended up finishing together, a few minutes clear.

Couple of tiny mistakes checking wrong similar feature, but best run ofthe week by a mile.

Ant Nolan ran 2nd for us and had a clean run, then Freemo held Bill off comfortably, leading to this rare perspective of Bill from the top of the podium :) :

orienteering race 59:29 [3] *** 8.32 km (7:09 / km) +218m 6:19 / km
slept:7.0 shoes: Inov8 X-Talon 212 (#6 Fluro)

Oz Champs, Hill End M50
Gave myself an early run, so I was in a pretty empty forest, which was cool. Course was fairly disappointing, underused the mining and had way too much plain spur/gully.

Still managed to get a bit low on one leg and then screw up another in the spur gully. Didn't appreciate how hard the leg would be (up side of a steep spur to hit a small hill on top - how hard could it be). Anyway RG will show.

So I should have been about 6 minutes behind Bill, but was more like 10.

Glasses were good, going to stick with them.

orienteering race 34:50 [3] 5.1 km (6:50 / km) +182m 5:48 / km
shoes: Inov8 X-Talon 212 (#6 Fluro)

Macquarie Woods.
Thought I had a pretty good run, but started with zero warm-up, or mental prep, so was huffing/puffing first half. Got thrashed by the real starters later. Couple of mistakes I can remember.

orienteering race 17:44 [3] 3.8 km (4:40 / km)
shoes: ASICS GT 1000 #5

Sprint, Bathurst - Men C.
Managed to duck out before the masses started, fairly clean run - good course on a small campus. Fun.

(distance a guess)

orienteering race 40:55 [3] 6.04 km (6:47 / km) +154m 6:01 / km
shoes: Inov8 X-Talon 212 (#6 Fluro)

Bathurst 3 days, Roseburg SF.

Again went out after a 5.30am start and 5 hours on the start, but took a 20 minute outage before running.

Ran with headband and bifocals, seemed to work OK. Had to push across some of the ong legs where it was pretty vague and I was just hoping that my bearing was OK. Lost a minute or two.

bush walk 2:00:00 [2] 10.0 km (12:00 / km) +400m 10:00 / km

Canobolas expedition with troedo, cakewoman, Jett and Lyra.
Cold. Bits of ice fell on us from the sky without actually being hail.

orienteering race 39:03 [3] 5.0 km (7:49 / km)
shoes: Inov8 X-Talon 212 (#6 Fluro)

Note to rest of M50 (except Bill): I did my best, but even the threat of snakes given to Bill as he got his map couldn't put him off. We may have to train up the Jock.

Aus middle champs, Hill End.
Shocking run, working on the start right up until my beep, tying laces retrieving compass, then into gold mining.

Confidence in my map-reading completely shot after not being able to find creek at #1, thinking I'd missed another creek on the way to #2. As a result never felt confident with the map. Walking 1-3 afterwards, the creek at #1 was ... just not there, but could have been some bits of green grass, and the yellow between 2 of the creeks en route to #2 was missing on the map (ie white). So just unlucky I went in with a muddled head didn't focus on the bigger earth features. Couple more huge errors on the way round, 8+ minutes of mistakes.

Will try to get 15 minute break before my start next weekend.

run 28:00 [3] 4.0 km (7:00 / km)

Running tasks between starts and collecting stuff from the area post event.

orienteering race 20:00 [4] 3.7 km (5:24 / km)

Aus sprint O, CSU campus Bathurst.
Nice map, good courses but head wasn't in it. Note to self, get a good break between being doings stuff and starting.
