White course with Katherine. This was super fun, she was "runner girl" with running super powers, and I was "swimmer girl" and apparently I was a super fast swimmer, but not as fast as Katherine was at running. This of course, meant that I had to "swim" along the trail, which would have gotten some strange looks if there had been anyone close enough to see. I also pointed out that it was very hard to swim uphill, so Katherine generously gifted me running superpowers for the hills. We made the plan early to avoid a long-ish dog leg to 4, since that would definitely take us longer than Katherine's 30-40 minute attention span. And anything longer than about 2k is pretty long for her still. We got to #6, and she could see the finish, so I couldn't quite convince her to turn away from the finish to get the last couple controls, either, so we ended up doing our own version of a white course. Katherine was really good at pointing things out on the map and correlating real life features with the map (the lake, trails, open fields, etc). Better than 50% accuracy with determining if we should go left, right, or straight at trail junctions, too! She had a blast playing on the slide and playground afterwards, as well. And then she got carsick on the way home. So that's 2 meets in a row where she's gotten sick within about 15 minutes on the drive home. At least I was better prepared this time, but she says she doesn't want to go orienteering because she doesn't want to get carsick, so that's definitely a bummer. She rides in the car just fine for a couple hours other times, so I don't know for sure what's going on, either. Is she getting overheated? Too many snacks on the trail? I dunno.
