US Classic Champs Day 2.
I pushed hard in the beginning. My body asked for special masochistic motivation as I was feeling pretty worn out to keep the pace up in the fast first half of the course. And I got pretty badly tricked. On my way out of #12 I run 30° off for 400m before correcting it (but not noticing that I was running wrong). I continue for about 1km in the right direction but parallel to where I thought I would be, thinking I must be really stupid not to find out where I am. Finally, I am able to relocate, after running blindly for 4 minutes. I am so shocked about my position that I decide to go back to the former control to make sure I punshed the right one. After running back 1km I get confirmed that I had punshed the right #12... and that's how I got to do an extra 2km. I pulled myself again together for the rest of the course, but I was enough tired that I continuously had troubles with the direction... which is anyway very tricky to keep in that terrain.

I will take home another strong memory from that race... it was a tough fight against the terrain and myself... and a very tight fight with Mikell Platt who I beat by ridiculous 6 seconds. What an amazing athlete! Truly an admirable O-cowboy.

Thanks to the RMOC crew for putting up those unique races. I really enjoyed the attractive special terrain, the good course setting and the very familiar race atmosphere.
