Shuffling 50:03 intensity: (28:25 @1) + (6:49 @2) + (10:52 @3) + (3:10 @4) + (47 @5) 3.28 mi (15:15 / mi) +27m 14:53 / mi
ahr:113 max:156 weight:176lbs

Was just going to walk today, but after 10 min, I felt OK so I did 3 min jog / 3 min walk on the Whiting Rd trails. I covered Blue-Brown-Green-Red-Orange-Pink-Orange-Black-Blue, while Nate was out running and getting twisted around off trail.

CBH3 from BB&B parking lot near Eastview. Very thick vegetation at times, and a long road run back after the fun was over. I kept up with Fetch and FRB to put in an 8:37 mile, which is probably the fastest in quite some time, and I was about the same pace for 1/4 mile leading into that.

The circus was back in town. First time back to St. Paul's for Mass since the pandemic hit. They had clusters of 1-5 chairs spaced > 6' apart, based on the reservations that were capped at 120. After Mass, the car wouldn't start, so I started walking home after Christine called AAA. After going 1.5 miles, I got a phone call that I had taken the key with me, so I went halfway back where I met Luke, who ran back to try to beat the AAA guy that had just notified us that he would arrive at 10:53, and it was 10:47 when Luke got the key, 3/4 mile away, but the guy arrived early. The jump-start worked and they picked me up, we paused at home to get another car and dropped the minivan at the dealer.

Orienteering 1:16:16 intensity: (14 @0) + (30:35 @1) + (23:59 @2) + (13:05 @3) + (6:17 @4) + (2:06 @5) 4.44 mi (17:11 / mi) +58m 16:30 / mi
ahr:120 max:156 weight:172lbs

Seemed like a nice day to be at Mendon Ponds Park, so I did the southern permanent controls - most of them for the first time ever. Legs were kind of worn out from the last two days, so more walking breaks were added.

Running 46:53 intensity: (6 @0) + (2:22 @1) + (10:28 @2) + (8:12 @3) + (22:58 @4) + (2:47 @5) 4.59 mi (10:13 / mi) +16m 10:06 / mi
ahr:138 max:154 weight:172lbs

Hadn't been to the Hojack trail in a while, so decided to park at St. Paul's and jump on the trail. Did 5 min jog, 1 min walk, with some pick-ups during the jogs, and 3 x 100m strides on the way in, once I hit Hard Rd again.

Running 40:29 intensity: (10 @0) + (1:30 @1) + (3:33 @2) + (8:44 @3) + (17:30 @4) + (9:02 @5) 4.01 mi (10:06 / mi)
ahr:142 max:163

Back to the Thomas track, this time for some tempo work. Did 4x800T with 100m walk recovery after each. Based on the VDOT estimate from my last two workouts, T is probably about 8:40 pace. Went 4:19, 4:15, 4:16, 4:04 (picked it up the last 200), so that was OK, and I can build from here.

Awful, overall, shooting 50 on the back 9, but I did par 15-16-17, so I'll be back.

ahr:96 max:141 weight:171lbs

After the last couple of days, needed a day "off" from running. I checked things out by jogging for 1 minute on the way back, then did 3 strides on the way in.
9 PM

Strength 1:54 [3]

Still stuck on 12 push-ups, but I will do 7 more before bed to celebrate Luke's 19th birthday.

Nate and I went and did the RH3 ghost trail at Tryon Park. It was set Saturday, but still in great shape except the very beginning. Nice job by BP taking around the park.

Strength 2:12 [3]

12 push-ups before the hash, then 10 more before bed.

ahr:136 max:161 weight:172lbs

ROC Sol-O meet at Oatka Creek. Nate and I drove over and met Walt and Patty after the course. Ran into Pete Dady and a friend of his when we arrived. Had trouble going to C2 as I followed a trampled area (deer or previous runners?) further right than I thought I was. Took me a moment to find the right pit for C3 and I went left on the way to C4, then over-corrected right and Nate managed to slip past me. Fairly clean the rest of the way, but was running out of gas late, thanks to several long trail runs (but Nate ran out of gas before I did).

ahr:115 max:162

More or less 3 min jog / 1 min walk as I cleaned up the ghost trail tape that I added on Monday, then took an alternate route after I had stopped placing tape.

Orienteering 56:39 intensity: (33:46 @1) + (12:47 @2) + (9:57 @3) + (9 @4) 2.98 mi (19:01 / mi) +11m 18:48 / mi

Found an old Orange Webster Park map from April 2014, so I went and did that this evening. Looks like I was just behind Luke's time of 54:57 from that meet, but ahead of Chelsea's 63:43. I was also ahead of Nate's 58:18, but that was his winning time on Red (6.6k). Several spots were tougher to get through in June that it would have been in April, so that's my excuse for being behind 12-year-old Luke.

ahr:137 max:167 weight:173lbs

Got myself to the track again, this time going to Penfield since I had to drop some stuff off at Paychex as they were collecting for a food cupboard. Upped the distance to 500m reps, and was only a little slower pace than last week's 400 (but did 5 not 6). Was able to descend all: 2:28, 27, 23, 22, 20

First week of league play for golf, finally. Was OB on 4 a triple-bogey, but played decent most of the evening for a 45, missing a 4-foot birdie putt on the last hole, leaving it a couple inches short.

There was some whining about our trail from Saturday (although SWH had no troubles with it today), so I reran it today and added some orange tape at a few key checks and a couple of other helpers. In hindsight, there was one "overly" tricky spot when we brought them out to the road to the campgrounds and they needed to go straight from the check, which was not obvious, or circle around to the right to find the hidden start of the trail thru that section.
8 PM

Strength 1:00 [1]

10 push-ups; didn't want to overdo it on day 1!

Nate and I drove over to BFLO for the Sol-O event at Emery Park. Nate ended up with a MSP and several minutes behind me; however, it wasn't really a fair course - not just because I've done many map hikes there over the years - as there were some misplaced controls, and C2 was a pretty ridiculous location: "somewhere in the thicket". I didn't lose too much time going 270 degrees around before busting in and happening upon the very low flag, but Nate spent more time there. I'm fairly certain C4 was in the wrong location - everything lined up for a boulder that I found immediately, but no flag. I then wandered one way, then the other and found the flag next to a piece of stone. C7 was definitely in the wrong location as the X on the map was most certainly marking the pile of logs at the edge of the clearing or, less likely, some old stone grill or something behind it. The flag was at some other junk, much closer to the stream, and Nate never found it. I found it only after resigning to having Nate catch up to me and confirm that it should have been at the logs before moving on. C8 was lying on the ground in a fairly random location, but it was right on my path to the mapped knoll, so I lost no time, but Nate took a wider approach and didn't see it initially.

A nice visit with Walt and Patty afterwards, then a quick stop at Brigid's house, where the sun was shining uninterrupted.
