Conservative credit for running around at Sectionals.

Short, easy run after bringing Luke to his baseball game. I was able to watch 50 minutes before heading over to Sectionals at Penfield HS. Too bad - I missed a 10-inning thriller, with Luke pitching 6 thru 9. Sadly, the bad guys prevailed again. Luke's baseball team seems to be picking up where his hockey team left off, losing by one frequently.

RH3 from Farmington. Arrived just a bit late, so was caught behind the back of the pack on the early single-track, but did have several sections where I picked up the pace.
Included a stop at the Finger Lakes casino, but I was not prepared to play the video poker machines they had - needed to study up - so I didn't.
Got another workout in during practice today. I joined the girls for their light workout, which was about all I could handle for now: 3 x 800 cruise intervals, followed by 4 x 200. I had everyone on speed limits, and they almost didn't run too fast. I did let the girls open up on the last 200 and they are looking fast.
3:20, 3:18, 3:16 w/ just 52 and 46 seconds recovery.
44, 40, 41, 39 with about 85 seconds between each.
Legs were pretty beat up from yesterday, so the rain during Luke's baseball practice gave me an excuse to stay nearby in case of a rain-out, rather than heading out for a run.

BFLO Meet at Emery Park - Orange
Interesting course around Emery Park, with a nearly death-defying climb up out of the ravine from C1 to C2. It turns out that Walt lost his compass in this area, when he had to put it in his back pocket to get down and up.
nate passed me on the way to C7, I think, but then I passed him on the way to C8, when he stopped to puke. That distracted me a bit, but the real time loss going to C8 was because the control flag had not been unfurled and was quite difficult to see. It didn't help that I had left my glasses on the counter at home when I was searching for my compass and epunch in our O bag. That meant that I couldn't read whether the control was at creek level, or up higher.
nate passed me again going to C9, but I gained some ground on him going up the hill toward C10. From C11, I took the shortcut thru the woods, but still didn't catch nate, especially since I aimed too far right coming out.

Completed a doubleheader with the ROC Meet at Webster Park - Red Course.
Sadly, the missing glasses led to a mispunch here. I battled thru various shades of green on the way to C17 and popped out on a trail. I could see a control down below me and was surprised that I happened to be right on target with the uncertainty of my direction thru the green, but I looked at the code (168) and that seemed to be what was on my clue sheet. Only after I finished did I learn that C17 was actually 186.
I also mispunched on C20. I came across a control with the wrong code, and couldn't see the map well enough to know exactly what was going on. I punched, then spent a little over a minute looping around to the right (as planned), but came up empty and went back thru the green to the trail and punched again, deciding that the flag was pretty close to the right spot. It turns out there was a late control added to the trail end for White, too close to the Red control.
I couldn't really move well out there. Not sure the percent contribution of the various factors: out of shape, ran earlier, hot (and I was way dehydrated) and perhaps even the heart problem. I'll have to address the problems under my control (get back in shape and stay hydrated) and see if I can improve over the next couple of months.
And of course, wear my glasses - if I can screw up at Webster Park without them, then I can't orienteer anywhere without them.
