platterpus set a nice set of challenges for the day. I wish I had really shown up. I didn't do well recovering from my errors today which tended to be compass/bearing leaving controls related. Major errors on 2, mispunched on 6 (punched 12 instead, the one stand I didn't check codes on because I was too annoyed; I actually felt lost on this leg!!), consequently my leg to 7 was bafflingly long (>2x what it should have been but I didn't understand why), and climbed the wrong spur on 8 (90 degree error again). By control 10, I had put myself on the ground >4 times, twice with old, unmapped fences that I didn't see, and turned my ankle in a hoof hole and face planted so I shut it down and walked some legs and ran a few others. I chose what seemed like a sensible route through 75 m of what was a wicked patch of very tall rough open that I thought should have had skeletons of those who did not quite make it to the mowed lawn at the campground cul-de-sac. Hammered through the finish in a many person 4th place tie to vent. cedarcreek let me know I mp'd (I didn't realize until then), I thanked him a bit snipily (for which I apologize) before moving on.

This race; my worst run since Happy Valley (thank god there was no knee-deep mud). I need to either stop trying to solve my recent issues to let them fix themselves or I need to fix them.

Ken, Bruce, and all of the OLOU/OCIN folks setup a very smoothly run set of races; a great weekend.

Mostly a good day. I liked the terrain more than I thought I might have and was happy for most of my run. Two big errors 5,4 min and several smaller miscues (≤1 min ea). Biggest was a missed reentrant due to thinking I saw an earth bank that was probably not mappable. 2nd was an egregious 90 degree error out an incorrect spur. Compass problems all weekend; worse on the 2nd day. I was really pleased that the weather held off until control pickup.

cleared up 8 or 9 bags from the course in a light rain with Aragorn. Peaceful.

About as beautiful a night as I could ask for alas I wasn't feeling it before I started. Thought I might go for just 5 miles total but the first two miles felt so good I set my out-and-back turnaround at 4.5 miles (rather than 5). This turned out to be lucky because the last mile was not feeling nearly as good. Best long run in a while!
