NAOC middle distance
Nice and challenging middle distance with limited runnability and sight for most of the course.

Mixed up already after the start a footpath with the mapped tracks and continued straight already losing around 1.5min to correct back to the path and fighting through the high bushes.
Invested a bit to get back onto the map to 2 and hesitated before 3. Ok until 7. Long leg to 8 was rather shaky. Direction mistake to 10 and 11.
Another bummer similar to the start after the specator control - again couldn't figure out the network of paths and lost another 1min.
Another direction mistake to 18 and hesitation to 19.

Clearly not happy with the overall performance. Not expecting zero mistakes but investing time on nearly half the controls is disappointing.

Looking forward to tomorrow (despite the 1:15k...)

Hiking the centennial trail in the Algoquin park. With Horsepower and Aika.
Very nice and scenic trail, often along ridges with spectactular views over the park. Rather chilly (high 40s) and windy and some rain.

US Nationals middle
Very positively surprised with the forest and course - a very nice course to run.

Got a bit too far left onto the street to 2nd (15-20s) but otherwise solid start. Already felt the tired legs though up to the 4th/5th. Didn't push the bit further uphill after 5 and went out too low. Realized it though when crossing the stream, saw 2nd again but still didn't take the bit of climb left and definitively ended up too low (1min).
Shortly hesitated before 7 when the earlier marsh was more a stream and I saw the other control also in the re-entrant. Unclean execution to 9 (15sec) and definitively tired to 12.
Think I took the right route choice to 14 saving some climb but couldn't figure it out in the circle (1.45min). Control description was earth bank (which ended above the solid contour line), the circle was about on the solid contour and the control seemed rather lower than the solid contour when coming in along the hill. Anyway also a clear sign of my tiredness.
Legs completely empty on the last climb.
