Orienteering race 19:02 [3] 3.0 km (6:21 / km)
spiked:18/21c

one of the best races i've put together in awhile. satisfying, that. made up for the long, cold, and pointless quarantine. no squiggly line for this one, what with WRE points on the table. 482 of which makes me the 1743th best men's orienteer. IN THE WORLD. Mom's proud.

non-spikes:
10: went too far east. looked up and saw a log to cross, got slaughtered by some greenbriar in the foreground. ended up on the east end of the marsh with the control.
11: bad bearing off of the nearby trail junction, was watching the controls but wasn't smart
14: don't remember what happened here exactly, but remember being confused by a trail junction, taking a directish route, and ending up just east of the control. kinda lucked out, i think.

also, battle damage!

thanks furlong47!

Orienteering 1:26:12 intensity: (8 @1) + (1:22 @2) + (28:48 @3) + (55:54 @4) 9.79 km (8:48 / km) +992ft 7:37 / km

ran green - didn't want an epic on the first long. did decently, but left plenty of room for improvement. subpar routes on the 1.6 and 1.2k long legs. it was the right course to run for the day, but i feel obligated to do red next time. more runs in the 1:30hr range, then. won a mug for my cowardice. drinking from it tastes like victory. or a second place echo of it.

non-spikes
1) briefly convinced myself i was starting from CP1, not the start triangle. did a buttonhook around the marsh.
9) oof. lost the plot in a vague trail junction, but quickly realized i was on the wrong heading. corrected, checked off the ruined wall, and then went into search-and-rescue mode. there were no survivors.
10) despite intended hypervigilance after the CP9 debacle, i ended up on the wrong side of the reentrant.
15) second-in-class overall route choice, tried to cut a tangent off about 3/4 through an ended up in the green. prickly shit, that.
16) too far east, collected by the trail, 10 steps west to the pin

NA cabin-o champ! Don't understand how, but I'll take it. Hope someone got a picture of the map/course Ross so excellently put together. And that splits get posted.

middle plus the bus right back to dingman's. that'll buff out

not a great result, but more respectable legs than usual. not catastrophe-free, but it's good to get the spectre of the lynn woods meltdown off my back. had some good legs - a first, second, and a fifth - albeit on trivial legs.

non-spikes:
6) bearing was a little southy, little prowl up the wrong greenish reentrant
12) thought i was one hill further than i was, and too far north to boot. really cruised through the terrain on the way to the wrong spot, though.
13) oof. did real well on the overall route, then aimed too far west. distracted by the childs patriarch moving at angles with purpose. correctly guessed he was on his way out of a control near what i wanted, and then i had a mental intermission. relocated off of the ruined stone wall / video cable junction, failed again, relocated off of CP14 and very nearly failed again.

Note

the gopro hero 3 ad makes me want to go out and do everything. especially so at 1080p

Cycling 20:00 [3] 5.0 mi (4:00 / mi)

from work to the barbershop and back. first exercise in like a week. legs felt like lead.
1 PM

Running 21:36 intensity: (2 @0) + (3 @1) + (2:54 @3) + (18:37 @4) 4.44 km (4:52 / km) +86ft 4:43 / km
ahr:164 max:179

almost went a week without doing anything remotely exercisey.
a solid six days of crunch time at work made for a big ball little sleep, no exercise, and eating like a college student. the digestive system didn't quite figure out what to do with a 'meal' at 4am, but it's back on the right track. up a few pounds for the effort - productive in more ways than one?
