Killarney Loop.

Kristen has brought up a few times that she would like to hike the full loop in a single go. With her 40th coming up in a few weeks she started talking about doing this as a birthday event again. We knew we needed someone else to join us to provide some lively conversation. They needed to be strong to help push Kristen (her words not mine), but also the right mindset to enjoy going at her pace. We recruited Simpy and he was excited to join us.

With major Thunderstorm and Tornado warnings in the forecast for Friday night we decided to delay the drive up so headed out at 3 on Saturday morning so we could start hiking early Saturday morning.

The hike itself went well with no major issues. I was surprised how many people we passed on the trail and also how busy the campsite was. Temps were 4 on Saturday and it probably went down to -2 in the evening.

The big challenge for us was the amount of water on the course. On Friday the area had 50-70mm of rainfall. All the rivers were really flowing and we a harder time finding the trail when it was under water sometimes versus the usual challenge of finding the trail up on the mountains. This included a bridge crossing that was more than a foot under water.

I think everyone had a good time and enjoyed ourselves. We ran into a group of three that was hiking out out to a campsite at about the 50 km part, camping and then doing the rest on Sunday. I think next time that's what we'd like to do so then you can see the whole trail in the daylight. Something to plan for next year.
