Warm-up 15:00 [1]

10 AM

MTBO 1:21:16 [4]

Poor start to control 1 the turnoff was overgrown as mapped but I did not read the the underlying contours to help me, so overshot the turn off and made up a few of my own short lived tracks. It turned out to be reasonably obvious when you looked in the right place. Next big mistake was on the sixth control when I headed down the bitumen at 90 degrees to the direction I was supposed to. Realised when there was a padock on the left when it should not have been. The same paddock featured in my major blue on the way to the scenic control n. 8 when I missed the left turn and headed of in the opposite direction I needed to. Convinced I had blown it I ambled back to the finish only to find other people had made bigger mistakes leaving me with a 10sec win. I think that is my first State champs of any kind.

Warm-up 15:00 [2]

2 PM

MTBO 41:53 [4]

Very slippery in the pea gravel on the way to the start so I let down the tyres to give me more traction.

No major issues on the day except missing one turn on the first leg. Fortunately was able to work out what happended due to the proximity of the bitumen road. Going past the fourth control also helped confirm my position. Perhaps could have gone harder.

Hockey 1:30:00 [4]

Felt very very flat today - accumulated tiredness or the glass and a half of wine drunk the night before?

Cycling (Commute) 37:00 [4] 17.5 km (28.4 kph)

A strong tail wind on the usual hard sections helped the mood considerably. I then managed to sit on a faster back wheel for four km. Then found myself doing the hard work for another rider, who I then managed to shake off. Felt good at the end despite the last 2km into the headwind.
6 PM

Cycling (Commute) 38:20 [4] 17.6 km (27.5 kph)

Harder work going home due to the head wind and numerous stops for traffic lights. Still pleased with the effort
