11 AM

Orienteering race (sprint) 18:50 [5] *** 2.6 km (7:15 / km) +20m 6:59 / km

British Sprint Championships, University of York, Heat C
good steady run and in the end a comfortable qualification for the final (was 4th of four when I finished and stayed fourth)

3 PM

Orienteering race (sprint) 17:49 [5] **** 2.4 km (7:25 / km) +20m 7:08 / km

British Sprint Championships, University of York, A Final
not so good, quick but hurried on the first two, which led to going off-line on 3 and leaving 3 - the classic sprint mistake - changing my mind once I'd chosen the route, which was the best route, ran past 5, on the long leg to 13, I took a simple route and looked ahead, which made me forget about the control in between, bit hesitant on 18 - should've tagged along on the Stephen Lang/Paul Gebbett train which had rushed past me at 15

16th, which was exactly my target result, but if I'd been 5 seconds faster I'd have bagged 13th, or 5 seconds slower and I'd have been last ...

Oker Loop (short)
nice mild evening and couldn't resist a short run ...

not sure how wise it was: I could feel my shins as I stepped out of the door and they're sore now, but I ran quite well, quicker than last time and much less arduous

Mapping 1:00:00 [1]

Arc Centre Grounds
scrambling around in grotty bits of woodland again (found more detail by the side of the sport centre than out on Farley Moor)

6 PM

running warm up/down 9:00 [2] 1.5 km (6:00 / km)

easy run down to the park with O-club
8 PM

running warm up/down 6:00 [3] 1.2 km (5:00 / km) +25m 4:32 / km

brisk run back from the park

Mapping 27:00 [1] 1.11 km (24:19 / km)

Farley Moor
went up to Farley Moor again to see if I could track down any of these missing boulders, but only got a depression or two ...

did find some boulders, though I had to peel back several inches of moss to identify them

running (trail/terrain) 26:00 [2] 3.5 km (7:26 / km) +25m 7:10 / km

Farley Moor
varied pace, that's to say, I threw a few faster intervals in what was otherwise an easy run with the occasional pause to check features (that weren't there) ...

Beautiful later afternoon sunshine

running 1:10:06 [3] 12.27 km (5:43 / km) +235m 5:13 / km

Matlock Bank, Bottom Moor, Jaggers Lane, Farley Moor
the outward section, mostly uphill, was slow but not too unpleasant, not until I started to feel sick, got a better rhythm going out on the top, and plodded on without too much bother, or speed ...

I headed into the north end of Farley Moor to satisfy my curiosity and double check some of the stuff I'd surveyed yesterday, and it took me off the road for a few kilometres

12 PM

running (terrain) 58:35 [3] 8.17 km (7:10 / km) +30m 7:02 / km
shoes: inov8 Mudclaw 272

Farley Moor
needed something on 'soft' ground after yesterday's urban race so I got a lift up to Farley, where I'm supposed to be planning a few 'loops' for the O-club, the map, however, is 12 years out of date

several excursions across brambles, felled areas, and through areas of so-called walk, stopped occasionally to make a mental note of the changes for rough map corrections later

how is it that boulders can disappear? (undergrowth?)

1 PM

running warm up/down 13:45 [1] 1.54 km (8:56 / km)
shoes: inov8 Mudclaw 272

walked, jogged, and also ran a little on the way down the hill from Farley - I was in o-shoes mostly on pavements
