Fat Biking 6:00:00 [3] 25.0 mi (14:24 / mi)
Lead the AMC Intro to Bikepacking overnighter with Karen. Awesome weather, awesome group. Averaged about 3mph for the ride, with numerous stops for loose straps, bouncy bags, and other gear carnage. Made it to the shelter with plenty of time, and were surprised to find some other AMC winter hiking friends waiting for us. Several more groups and individuals showed up, but there was plenty of room. I spent over an hour finding the perfect hammock trees (I'm still looking) and setting up the hammock and tarp. Spent a long evening around the fire with fritos, guac, margaritas, and dehydrated enchilada goo. Got up the next morning, repeated the cuisine (sans margies) after walking down to the lake where two otters were upset to see me.
The ride back the next morning was much quicker, mainly given the easier trails and fewer stops. My front tire, which got pierced by a stick two miles from the car on my scouting trip, blew up again, this time three miles from the finish. I plunged a bacon strip into the sputtering mess and instantly things went from a minor slow leak to a full disaster. Bacon strips were no match, and superglue only held for a few minutes. I limped to a shady spot and swapped in a tube, while the rest of the group got lost and showed up 20 minutes later, right as I was ready to ride again. At least we all got to finish the ride together.
