Biking 45:00 [3]

My foot is bothering me a bit again today. :-( Well, the only good thing about doing cross-training is that I absolutely need something to keep me from being bored, so I get in armchair training. I looked at a couple of maps from spain and portugal. For the forest race long, I tried to make sure to see all of the routes and then pick the best one. For the sprint, I focused on making very quick decisions and then afterward going back to check that they were the best route. I went to the gym and used the stationary bike again. I did one of the hill workout options. Evidently I went 11 miles and right when I stopped looking at maps and began focusing on biking for the last 5 minutes, I checked my heartrate on the bike (I don't know how accurate it is) and it said it was at 130, so that's probably around where it was most of the time. I'll have to actually figure out cross-training workouts if my foot continues to bother me. After yesterday, I'm more optimistic that maybe it's just a bruise, but who knows. I'll see what happens.

Core. Doing this while skyping with Carlo made it way better than doing it alone.

My foot was feeling better today, but I ended up walking more today than any day the past week too...

Biking 45:00 [3]

I gave up on my optimism that my foot would be better and I'd be able to run by this weekend and went to the gym. I guess I'll have to find good biking routes around here since I loathe gyms. Still because of the uncertain weather, I just used one of the exercise bikes. I did a workout for 45 minutes while picking routes from three different orienteering maps and trying to visualize the route as I was biking. Supposedly I went about 12 miles and my heart rate did get up to 150 at the end, so I guess this was a reasonable first gym workout. I also biked to the gym and then to Trader Joes, but I don't usually log my regular biking.

Here's an update on my foot. I'm still not sure exactly what's wrong with it. Sunday - Wednesday, it really hurt whenever I walked or stood on it. I obviously tried to stay off it whenever possible and I've even been biking very short distances around campus that I would usually walk, but it's impossible not to walk a bit (to get from my apartment to my bike, from the bike to my lab, between my office and lab, etc.). It felt like there was a large bruise or something in the middle of the bottom of my foot, and that's thankfully getting better. It also felt like there was a different kind of pain shooting up the outside of my ankle and at this point, the outside of my foot is what hurts the most. It's not hurting nearly as much as at the beginning of the week, but I can still feel it whenever I walk. I was icing it and taking anti-inflammatories a lot on Tuesday and Wednesday (after talking with my dad) and that seemed to help, but at this point it's been a week and it's still not fully better.

Trying to figure out what to do that won't hurt my foot, so I did core (planks, bicycles, v-ups, russian twists, swimmer, hip dips, etc.). I thought this might be an excuse to actually start doing more strength exercises, but many exercises that I should start still involve standing on my feet so I figured that probably wasn't great right now. If the pool is open tomorrow (it's supposed to rain so it probably won't be), maybe I'll go do a swim workout or at least I'll get in an abs workout again. It's so frustrating to have gotten injured (hopefully it isn't much and it will go away soon) after I was just getting back into shape again.
