Cateran Trail Race

Weather around 10-15c, overcast with some drizzle in later parts.

Overall a good run. As had not run with him for years, arranged for Steve to meet me at Alyth (26miles in) but then realised were no support runners allowed. I cleared that with the organisers at the start - who told me, if I placed, I would be excluded from receiving a prize.

Good pace on first stretch, hitting CP1 (6miles) about 10mins up on previous years. Kept easy pace, always holding back with good stride out on climbs. Nice and non-demanding. Legs feeling stronger than recently, which I suspect is part exercises and part losing a little weight.

Met Steve as planned. Think did help to have someone with 26miles less in their legs. Uncomfortable and regular explanation of having a support runner at all teh checkpoints. Good to have someone so close to chat with the whole way.

Overtook lots of people. Suspected was well ahead of last year as my memory of the check points suggested was 30-60mins faster. Good strength over the last climb and the descent into the hotel. Was pleased with time of 11.01 - which is almost identical to the 53mile Fling time, 53mins up on last year and 90mins better than 2012.

After a shower, went to collect my "quaich" momento and was told to wait as the organiser was found as I had won a prize. Even when explained my agreement not to place, they insisted on getting Karen. She confirmed there was no prize me ... even though I was FIRST male super vet! Brilliant. I've never had that. At least Steve was my witness.

Quads and sole of feet are sore, although nothing like previous races. Also encouraging to hear praise from Steve about my pace, saying I am now running "half a gear higher" than he would have thought comfortable. A good day out - even managing a bag of chips (that is fries to you, Paul) on the way home. Great to have a race with no nausea or vomiting!

Archipel - Madurodam

Relatively easy run as knew would be on TM later today. Lots of high steps and butt kicks. Good wee pace.

Shell gym TM

PdW hill training session. 5mins flat then 55mins at 4%, keeping the pace at 9.10/mile. Much harder than expected. Felt wiped out even after the first 10mins so had to work hard to keep going to the end - which I did.

Long Scheveningen loop with dunes

15mins easy then 35mins at ~7.30/mins pace with a 10mins warm down. GPS watch out of battery so had to estimate the pace by "feel". Good, hard crusing feel. Enjoyed and felt like a great work out.

The Hague, 9c with strong wind and occasional rain

JdWlaan - Kijkduin dunes - with extra loop to get to one hour

Susprisingly good feeling. More "springy" and energetic than have been for may weeks. Maybe down to losing a little weight, recoevring from the Fling and the leg massage on Thursday. Found verye asy to sustain sub 8mins pace over the course of the run, even when had strong headwind over the first half. Nice, realxed fast crusing feeling in majority of the run.
