Raced the Wild Hare 50 miler in Warda TX. Went hard out of the gate - well, as hard as I was able to considering I had no headlight and the first 40 min were pre-dawn. Settled in by lap 3. Lap 4 was a good one. Started to feel the fatigue by lap 5 though (of 7). My strategy was to put as many cold temp miles in but I knew I'd pay for it later in the race, which I did. I've learned that when you want to break an ultra record, it's steady pacing that will do it, not a fast start and a hope to survive.
All good though. Took the win, and generally, pleased with the first 60 km of the race. Last 20 needs work. Exhausted now.
