Running 55:00 [3]
shoes: Saucony Xodous

Round Corbetta. Trees all turning colour, looking lovely, and forestry teams are busy chopping down trees, so it smells gorgeous. First run in rain for a long time, but only light drizzle so not too bad.

Borbuitse long. Very slow on climb, legs and back were v stiff from the skiing and only really loosened up when I got into a hot bath on my return.

All of the cows are down from the mountains now, only the genisses left, and they'll be gone in another week. Fences are going too, and slowly the mountains are returning to the wild. Summer seems to be over very suddenly, and I'll miss the sound of the cowbells.

Roller ski 1:00:00 [3]

More roller ski, this time actually classic (Sat was skate on classic skis) with club at Grattavache school and cycle path. My technique is useless!

Then a selection of evil core strength exercises that I failed at completely.

Roller ski 1:15:00 [2]

Took H's roller skis down to Vevey as she had a party there. Backwards and forwards along the lake front, with some loops nr la Tour de Peilz. Surprising how quickly it came back, didn't fall once... Too many people enjoying the nice weather to risk going really fast, and my arms wre starting to ache by the end!

Cycling 2:00:00 [3]
shoes: bianchi

With Ros. Towards Lac de Bret, Forel, Palezieux and extension to col de Chemin de Fer. Cold ish to start, but soon warmed up and enjoyed it.

Running 1:00:00 [3]
shoes: Saucony Xodous

Mology forest run. Ground v wet from rain last night. Reasonable, not much pace on climb.

Orienteering 30:00 [1]
shoes: Saucony Xodous

With H at training, Verdilloud. Forest a bit green, and course a bit hard, so I adjusted and she managed most of it by herself. Ran around to spy on her, but need to wear something less visible than a purple cagoule - she kept spotting me!

Running 1:10:00 [3]
shoes: Saucony Xodous

Radzé Saletta Vuipay. Had planned to do a shorter run, but it was such a lovely day I couldn't resist being out longer and heading higher. Pretty slow on the lower part of the climb, but felt faster on the top part and the "flat" ridge section.

Running 1:10:00 [3]
shoes: Saucony Xodous

pralet run for the first time since Laura was here this summer. Climb was OK, but the descent was very muddy and slow. New shoes are good for that.

Sunday Sep 21, 2014 #

Note

Fell day walk with D, whilst H was on training camp. Verollys, Guederes, Soladier, Molard, Fégire, Verollys. Nice day, avoided rain completely.

Saturday Sep 20, 2014 #

Note

Helping morning and night with roller ski race. Back felt surprisingly good so almost ran in the middle of day, but mowed lawn instead.

Friday Sep 19, 2014 #

Note
(injured)

Weirdly, after a couple of weeks of lots of activity, I have managed to pull a muscle in my back doing housework... Very painful at the moment so will need a few days off.

Cycling 2:00:00 [2]
shoes: bianchi

Rescheduled ride with Ros up to Goille au Cerfs. They'd put out kilometre markers on the climb ready for the roller ski race on Saturday - helped keep us motivated. Felt happy on climb, great views despite the general greyness of the day, and coffee at the top was nice.

Running 50:00 [3]
shoes: Saucony Xodous

No bike ride as I needed to help D sort his car. Instead, ran round Corbetta. Still felt good and enjoyed it.

Orienteering 30:00 [1]
shoes: Saucony Xodous

At Fribourgeoise training nr Dudingen. Racing round the long way to various vantage points to watch Heather, who was by herself for the first time. She did OK, and the forest was nicer than I thought.

Running 1:10:00 [3]
shoes: Saucony Xodous

Still felt grim this morning, but by midmorning the ibuprofen had kicked in, so went out for run. Set off to do Borbuintse loop, but as the climb went on I felt stronger and stronger so I carried on up the path to the col de pralet, then down my favourite path, which was as lovely as ever. For the first time since I restarted training, I actually felt good at the end.

Monday Sep 15, 2014 #

Cycling 40:00 [2]
shoes: bianchi

Feeling tired and headachy from the weekend, so couldn't persuade myself to run. Took the bike out instead - 30 mins up the nearest big hill, with 10 mins back down to get home (just) before the school bus.

Orienteering 1:06:50 [4]
shoes: icebugs

Nat 8, Long distance at Säntisalp. Amazingly beautiful scenery, but very marshy and muddy underfoot. Technically reasonable - slight detour to 3, but OK. Slow on the tougher marshy bits, and also down v scary descent to 10. Frustratingly, I lost about 90 seconds coming out off 12 by getting pulled into the grot. I'd already identified that I needed to be clean leaving the control, but I still just wandered off. Also had to jump over a dead deer, which wasn't too nice either...

Orienteering 31:00 [1]
shoes: icebugs

Round the Family course with Heather. Again, quite tricky but some bits she did really well. She did try to make a 180° error out of no 1 though, and even when I'd reset her map for her she wasn't convinced that she wanted to go the correct way.

Saturday Sep 13, 2014 #

Orienteering 37:00 [4]
shoes: icebugs

Nat 7, Middle distance at Selamatt. Had Lucia Lauenstein off 3 mins after me, which helps focus the mind. Unfortunately, I missed the obvious path to 2 and ended up climbing some uncrossable crags, then I just didn't go far enough for 3. By the time I realised it, she was past me. Then I missed 4 by being slightly too far north, but generally clean after that. Often took different routes to Lucia, but met up again at the controls. It helped to motivate me to keep running, but probably not much with the nag.

Area was very, very muddy.

Orienteering 35:00 [1]
shoes: icebugs

Followed H round the Family course - probably an "Orange" by UK standards, as most controls were point features off lines, and we needed bearings twice. She did a reasonable job of navigating what she could.

Friday Sep 12, 2014 #

Running 1:02:00 [3]
shoes: Saucony Xodous

North from Chatel towards Rogivue and back to Tatroz. Felt a bit more energetic - Achilles both still sore at start.

Thursday Sep 11, 2014 #

Running 1:00:00 [3]
shoes: Saucony Xodous

Mology forest. Not very inspired, difficult to keep moving.

Wednesday Sep 10, 2014 #

Cycling 2:00:00 [3]
shoes: bianchi

With Ros, ride up towards Rue. Kept moving at a good pace.

Orienteering 1:00:00 [0]
shoes: icebugs

Took H to the Fribourg training near Matran. Tried to persuade her to go round by herself and I would just follow. She found the first two fine, but then failed epically for no 3 and gave up. Got to 5 before 4 and then burst into tears. Completey hopeless and very frustrating. She is perfectly capable of getting around a TD1 course as long as she actually looks at her map - she seems to think she can not look at it for 5 mins and still not get lost.

Tuesday Sep 9, 2014 #

Running 1:15:00 [3]
shoes: Saucony Xodous

Radze Saletta Vuipay run, but did most of climb off road on new route. Probably a bit too steep - ended up walking a fair bit of it.

Enjoyed the run and shoes were fine.

Monday Sep 8, 2014 #

Note

Hiked with Yvonne around le Creux and les Moilles. Wore new shoes to wear them in.

Saturday Sep 6, 2014 #

Running 1:15:00 [3]
shoes: Saucony Xodous

Family walk to begin with, up to niremont and then lit a fire for a BBQ. Then I ran home, via villard dessus, Vuipay and cascade. Climb was grim - too close to lunch and too steep. Enjoyed rest of it, still lots of bilberries in forest.

Friday Sep 5, 2014 #

Running 55:00 [3]
shoes: Saucony Xodous

Corbetta loop and back through moille. Feet still hurt for first 10 mins.

Thursday Sep 4, 2014 #

Running 55:00 [3]
shoes: Saucony Xodous

Borbuitse loop. Soles of feet hurt going up climb as feet adjust to new shoes. Descent good though.

Wednesday Sep 3, 2014 #

Cycling 1:40:00 [3]

Usual Oron loop with Ros to get back into. Lots to catch up on from the holidays.

Tuesday Sep 2, 2014 #

Running 50:00 [2]

Bought new shoes in morning, then tried them out this afternoon. Seem good. From Verollys to Gueders and back via Borbuitse.
