Biking race (Mountain) 2:00:00 [4] 20.0 mi (6:00 / mi) +2200ft 5:26 / mi

First leg of the Trioba - Wild Sky Adventure Race. We headed up out of Index following a pace car. Once the car peeled off, the race was on. Julie almost got creamed by a guy looking for his teammates once the road started to get steep. We regrouped and Matt hooked Julie up on the tow and we cruised to the front of the pack. Matt was a monster. We climbed for a bit and hit the first CP. After that we did not see many folks. We chose the road over an unimproved trail and seemed to be alonge. We hit the next few CPs alone. CP 3 had a fantastic view of the Index valley. Sweet, but no time to linger.

We finished up the bike leg without seeming many folks. We were first into the TA and on to the trek.

Running race (Trek) 2:00:00 [4] 6.0 mi (20:00 / mi)

First trek section. Verve caught us on the way to CP 3. We ran together leepfrogging a bit. We lost them on the way into a CP toward the end. We hit the TA with Verve out of sight. We did pretty well overall. Julie was fighting hard to keep her heart rate in check. I started to have some cramps. First time ever. We found a few snow banks. I stuffed snow in my shorts and down my shirt. Nice.

Distance a guess.

Biking race (Mountain) 1:00:00 [4] 20.0 mi (3:00 / mi)

Second bike section. Sweet super fast blast down into Index. Julie was loving this section. I loved it. Miles held back using a bit of caution that the rest of us refused to acknowledge as appropriate in the situation. We came into town after hitting the few CPs along the way. We saw Verve leaving the TA just as we pulled in.

We had a super fast transition. We had talked about really not needing much and basically just took on water at the TA. As we blasted out of the TA we heard folks saying that we were much faster than the other team in the TA. That got us charged a bit. After just a few miles of road we were at the next TA, which was the transition to the next trek portion.

It was fantastic to be changing leads with Verve through this. Nothing like close competition to get you really charged and to keep you focused on puting on your best race. I felt we were working well together to nail everything and to keep the race close. This was our team at its best.

Running race (Trek) 1:20:00 [4] +1000ft

Second trek section. This section included five CPs. The first three were on the way up a pretty mean hill. Julie was a trooper and was suffering pretty bad. She hung in there as we pulled and pushed her along. I was pretty spent on the way up the hill. Team Verve popped out of the bushes just as we approached the first CP. By the time we got to the fourth CP, they had 4-5 minutes on us. The hills were too much. Poor Julie, being sick and all.

It was getting pretty hot and I was very glad to have the rafing coming up and that we were not doing this section two hours later in the day. After the fourth CP, we cruised down the hill rather fast and were trying hard to make up some time. We saw several teams at this point. We had not seen teams other than Verve for hours. Some teams cheered us on to catch Verve, as they "were just ahead of us." We did not see Verve back at the TA. We had another reasonably fast transition in the TA.

Biking race (Road) 15:00 [4]

Short ride on the bikes to the rafting section of the race. It was not bad, but our legs were pretty worked. Some rolling hills. I was worried I was going to slow folks down/need a tow. However, I seemed to rally a bit and was able to maintain speed up the short rolling hills. Fantastic. We hit the TA 6:37 being Verve. Game over unless they flipped their raft....very unlikely.

Sea Kayaking (Rafting) 40:00 [3] 5.0 mi (8:00 / mi)

Sweet rafting section of the race. I was not sure what to expect. It was fantastic. Once in the TA we were off the clock and could regroup. We took our time to put on paddle clothes, took in fluids and food. Bucky was stoked to be our guide. The raft guides were very excited to be with a group of folks excited about getting down the river as fast as possible. They were buzzing with energy. Pretty cool to feed off their energy when we were flagging. We told Bucky that we wanted to race things out. No leasurly float today.

The rafting took just a bit to get into the swing of things. We had a lively river. Not too crazy. I was front left. We hit a number of holes and bumps. Enough to get us all wet, which induced cheers from our group. It was still pretty hot and the water was fantastic.

We came in a total of 9 minutes behind Verve. Third place was an hour behind us. Good race. Good team. When is the next race? Oh, just two weeks.....

Running (Road) 43:12 [3] 5.7 mi (7:35 / mi)
shoes: Brooks Glycerin 5 - Blue

MAN night run with Chase. We did the first 2.9 in 22:37 and then the next 2.8 in 20:35. I picked it up for the last 150 meters to try to shake my sore biking muscles loose a bit. Nice weather.

Biking (Road) 3:14:00 [4] 51.9 mi (3:44 / mi) +1980ft 3:36 / mi

Great day for a ride with Chase. We had fantastic weather, good riding, no incidents. Rode from Log Boom to Marymoor, East Lake Samammish, up over Couger Mt, through Newcastle, along Lake Washington, over I-90 West bound, along Lake Washington, through the Arboretum; past UW and then back around the NW portion of the lake to Log Boom.

I was a bit knackered by the finish. I did not bring any food - only NUUN. I should know better.

Run from Lynndale park (Drew had a game) to the gym and then from the gym into Edmonds, along the water, then home via Olympic View drive. Nice day to be out and about running.

The legs were a little unhappy at first then things started to work pretty well. I am glad I took the time off since last weekend's beat down and now I feel pretty good. Trioba here I come.
