Note

Cottesloe Metro - not what I had hoped, but I think the sprint section went down well.

First the wedding which I knew about, but was unfortunate in that having the Main Lawn out of bounds restricted route choices somewhat, and forced the Start to be located outside the grounds in a cramped area, with a separate Finish. The ideal location for Start/Finish would have been on the Main Lawn, at the top of the steps from Napier St.

Then finding on the day that the Sunken Lawn area was being used for an event the Council hadn't told me about. This forced the deletion of control 2, and really restricted route choices both within and outside the grounds (I expected some people to get 2 then go outside and come back in at the end for the other 5 controls in the grounds). Inside, there were some good options between both 2 & 3 and 2 & 4, which were lost when 2 was scrubbed.

Finally, when doing the briefing, having said that no. 2 was deleted, I should have reduced the number of controls required by 1 on all courses. Not doing so meant the courses were over-long, and times blew out.

Apparently people had problems at 17. The green was mapped very accurately, and the contours I thought I mapped particularly well, but maybe I should have experimented a bit with the OCAD brown and green colours to make the contours more visible.

I think that a good sprint map could include the Civic Centre, the Dunes and car park, the tennis courts, and the two cul-de-sacs down to Marine Parade. We'd need to run it at a time which would suit the tennis club (a morning in Winter?), and have timed crossings across Napier St. The multiple levels of the Civic Centre grounds are certainly interesting!

Road cycling 2:32:03 [3] 58.43 km (2:36 / km)
shoes: Bike: Beemer Auto

Friday group ride, just Carol & me, and anti-clockwise starting from near Carol's, so that we could meet PP for coffee in Applecross for a change. Stayed on paths quite a bit, so not very fast.

Thursday Nov 23, 2017 #

Road cycling 3:00:32 [3] 69.94 km (2:35 / km)
shoes: Bike: Beemer Auto

Two rivers ride, usual Easterlies hampering any direction except due West. No roadworks today, but looks like they haven't finished so expect to find delays sometime in the next weeks.

Di2 charge.

Road cycling 2:24:52 [3] 58.14 km (2:30 / km)
shoes: Bike: Beemer Auto

Around the river including Mt Henry, detour to Elite RC on the way home. SE/NE winds again, and resurfacing of Point Walter Rd requiring riding on the footpath, with a 3-4cm drop and lift at each of the several side roads.

Road cycling 18:00 [3] 4.8 km (3:45 / km)
shoes: Bike: Beemer Auto

Had to ride to Council mtg and back as PP and JJ took the car.

Road cycling 3:48:10 [3] 91.2 km (2:30 / km)
shoes: Bike: Beemer Auto

Two rivers and Roe Highway - similar to last week but this time through Rossmoyne & Shelley rather than the Waterford side of the Canning, because I figured it would add the few kms needed to make 300 for the week. Wind S-SW, not too strong for a change.

Sunday Nov 19, 2017 #

Road cycling 1:59:28 [3] 43.43 km (2:45 / km)
shoes: Bike: Beemer Auto

West Coast ride with PP, including the side trip to the top of Reabold.
