ahr:126 max:157 rhr:50 shoes: Saucony trail tunners

To Battery Kemble and home. Warm up fast walking til crossed MacArthur, ran almost to BK. Caught my breath and walked to upper trail, ran home but had to walk a couple hundred m on trolley trail. Felt harder than it shoukd have. Legs felt tired. Maybe the heat. Maybe the detraining for 1.5 weeks. Right toes were without pain!!!

Saw Dr Firestone in am. All is good. He removed big corn between toes, which may have been causing small neuroma and pain/burning in R foot.

From Dupont Circle to home via Kafe Leopold and towpath. A little tired for walking. But hungry and carying stuff. Corn removal made big difference.

Joints all look good but xray showed damage to ligament in R ankle from sprain in jr high school. Gave me a brace to use as i wish fir hiking, o’ing preventatively. A little arthritis deveoping in L big toe, and sugns of osteopenia in several joints in feet. Said no prob to run with neuroma.

Boundary Bridge loop. Still feeling the o meet on Sunday ,but flat running on return felt pretty good. Made it all the way up one if hills I’ve never been able to do before. Toes and R ankle hurting. Tried to concentrate on running form.

orienteering (Swanson Rd) 1:27:00 [3] ** 5.1 km (17:04 / km) +110m 15:24 / km
ahr:132 max:153 spiked:6/8c shoes: Icebugs

Planned to take it slow after almost 2 weeks with only stairs for exercise. Definitely slow at start but warmed up by third control. Got stuck trying to climb steep muddy bank coming out of 3 and Adam Smith had to pull me up! At 4, stopped to explain aiming off to a group of newbies then tried to help newbie Scott use his tradtional compass. Finally told him to put it in his pocket and Id show him how to navigate by terrain. So tho he mived faster than me through the whoods, we did lots if pausing to discuss routes and collecting features, and slowed but steep banks. Got very mixed up with streams coming out of 8 and after many discussions ( we were correctly located near bend in stream) couldnt match streams to map so changed route choice. For being so slow, we came in like 4th. Nice course. Good exercise for me to have to articulate the o’ing to someone else.
