Hiking (Norfolk, Pine Mtn + East ) 2:09:00 [4] 5.52 mi (23:22 / mi) +252m 20:28 / mi
ahr:117 max:149 rhr:51 slept:8.0 shoes: Mammut Ducan hiking shoes

Good hike, mostly easy but some steep or long climbs. Heart was pounding on climb to Pine Mtn summit, which does t bode well for Beartooth hiking! That should motivate me to train harder, higher! Stopped many times to look for blazes or to clear branches and vegetation from trails. New hiking shoes were comfortable but maybe a little large; did not try to tighten laces. Amazing for first time out in them. Temp in 70s with a little breeze. Felt energetic on last leg of hike, which was ever so slightly uphill. Left post tibular tendon aching now, and right toes again. Hmm.

Easy run with 3 sprints in the middle. Hr high after sprints. Calves and ankles tight: need to get back to stretching and strengthening. Strong wind out of the woods. Warmup and cool down not recorded.

orienteering race (Annual Beer Chase) 1:08:00 [4] *** 2.7 mi (25:11 / mi) +25m 24:29 / mi
ahr:154 max:167 spiked:12/14c rhr:51 slept:9.0 shoes: Saucony trail tunners

End of year beer chase tho i drank water for the first two quaffs. Even that was hard to swallow. Slosh. On first loop went halfway to 3 instead of 2 then made a bad approach to it. Rest of loop was good. Got confused by all the punching and quaffing between loops so lost more time. Went around swamp and followed my plan well tho i lost time since Kris told me later that theres never any water in whats marked as that swamp. Did alright to 2nd loop second control and aimed left so as not to end up in flat purgatory if i missed it to the right. Got clise enough to road that i took it to where i thought the control was, but was short. Didnt know how to interpret the mapping. But turned the right way and saw the control, with benefit if two people exiting it. But i woukd have hit it anyway. Rest kf course was fine but got very mucky in parts. Finished strong. Fun. Very glad to meet Kris — too bad its the end if the season but maybe ill see her in Laramie. Lots in common and about the same speed ( tho shes far more experienced)
