Australian Sprint Champs at Salesian College, Sunbury.
Came 5th (lower than that when incl. juniors!). Had a decent run considering minimal sprint races and "speed work" this year. A couple of time losses crept in in the second half due to not reading ahead - went left to 12 (then had to go around the building) and then right to 15 (had to go around the building, then realised also the fence). 1.01 down on the Spanish visitor, Maria. Fun area and course!

We visited the Wombat Hill Botanic Gardens (Daisy had a massive meltdown because jam tarts were on offer for morning tea and apparently she doesn’t like tarts), the Convent Gallery (Isabelle had a meltdown because she wanted to rub her hands across all of the paintings and so Matt had to remove her from the gallery) and then we went for a walk around the old crater rim at Mt Franklin. Then we went to Hepburn Springs for an ice cream and there was a huge fight over the giant chess pieces but I had walked off by then.

I felt so sleepy today (and yesterday). I reluctantly went for a very easy jog around Lake Daylesford and a little way down the river. There were many interesting things to look at. Some muscles in my arm/chest area (no idea what they’re called) were super tight and sore. Was trying to work out why and realised it must have been from when I climbed/slid down into a ravine to rescue a soccer ball yesterday. Hope it loosens up overnight!

Goldfields 3 Days, Day 2 on Mt Alexander South. Fast open terrain with a bit of rock detail. My direction was a bit off on a couple and I felt fairly tired. Fun though, if a little soggy underfoot :)

Goldfields 3 Days, Day 1 - Kyneton.
Fun sprint around the botanic gardens and then a couple of loops of the school. I lost 30secs to the first control but the remainder wasn’t too bad. Finished 55secs down on Mikayla Cooper.

Australian Middle Champs, Blackwood.
Word on the street was that it was a super technical area so I approached it with a cautious attitude. I lost a minute on c3 by being a bit off and slow to relocate but I didn’t feel all was lost and carried on. I safely moved through all of the detailed controls and got them all “ok”, some were smoother than others, but no disasters. Then I lost a minute (and arguably the race) on c17 right near the end - I thought I would drop early to a small track but found myself stuck in green and not finding any track. I climbed and it opened out a bit and then I got onto the small track leading into c17. I was annoyed at myself about this, and a bit disappointed to finish 47secs down, but it was a nice consolation to take the title (winner being from NZ).

Victorian Middle Champs, Jubilee Lake.
Got confused immediately out of the start triangle when I came across a control in a watercourse but couldn’t pinpoint it on the map. Despite it not being highly relevant to what I was doing, I thought about it for a long time before deciding to just move on, and came across my control (lost a minute). Otherwise, the rest of the course was fairly clean. Felt a bit tired physically but kept pushing pretty hard anyway. Happy to finish on top.

Had a training course in the city. Afterwards I went for a run in Black Mt Reserve. It’d been ages since I’d run there and I’d forgotten where all the tracks went, but bumbled around and did a good route in the end without much overlap. It was raining and misty throughout.

Running race 2:12:57 [4] 23.1 km (5:45 / km)

Sri Chinmoy Canberra Trail 100, 4th leg. Grant ran first then Shannon, Adam (taking Matt’s place) then me. I ran over Mt Majura and Mt Ainslie, finishing down by the lake near Anzac Parade.
It was a tough run but went reasonably well. I’m not used to pushing myself over long distances, so it was great training and my right knee only started to feel sore in the final few kms. The weather was fantastic!
We finished 4th mixed (1st team with two women!) in 8:30:58.

Didn’t really get a chance to run, although some could argue that I could have tried harder. Logged off at 16.50 and hurried over to Parliament House for the 5pm 96 gun salute to mark the sad occasion. Met Matt and took the kids so he could get to a work function.

Along Cooleman Ridge then over to McQuoids Hill and up and around that, then back to Cooleman Ridge and over Mt Arrawang. Nice to run somewhere different for a change, but felt very tired.

Street-o at Kingston-Barton in my lunch break. The event can be run anytime between Thursday and Monday if you want to be official, but I didn’t use Maprun, just printed the map and ran. It was a great training session and fun game trying to cross all the roads without having to wait for cars.
