Note

How about a Wednesday morning Navigation Games summary? What's on my mind:

  • Cambridge public schools third grade curriculum - ramping up to deliver at 12 schools this spring. Teachers are delivering; we're supporting. I'm heading in there this morning to install software on their SPORTident tablets and computers (Easygec).
  • PSYCHED that Evalin Brautigam will spend four weeks with us, helping with program design, delivery, and reviewing the curriculum. We are also interviewing potential volunteers from France, Brazil, Mozambique, Turkey, Sweden.
  • We are making progress on the curriculum, which is based on the work we've done the past 6 years in and out of schools. The format will be 3 levels (roughly grades K-2, 3-5, 6-8) with 6 main lessons in each, with an emphasis on outdoor activity, and mapped to Health & Wellness (SHAPE America) learning outcomes. Accompanied by 6 lessons that can be done more in a classroom setting, with an emphasis on STEM earning outcomes. I've decided on the tech stack for this version.
  • Started thinking again about how to work with OUSA. I'd like OUSA to feel we are on target with what we're doing - and get stamp of approval from them. I also want to talk through how schools will get maps made, and how we loop in clubs in a way that benefits them and that they are happy with, and does not feel like an unwanted burden. Eg providing the activities and encouraging school staff to attend local events. Maybe OUSA would help with travel support for attending some of the conferences, where I talk about NG curriculum and YMP map making and local orienteering club events.
  • We can't do what we do without paid staff, so figuring out income is always a challenge.
  • Three conference presentations in the next couple months, in MA, IA and CA. (Not definite; we submitted proposals)
