Terrain (Grass) 29:00 [1] *
(rest day) shoes: Speedstar 6 (old)

Comically short and slow run on the powerline.

Potentially serious injury to the lower right leg a few inches above the ankle. I'm assuming this was incurred when I tripped at around 2.5 hours yesterday. Bruising pattern is difficult to analyze. It looks a lot like a break, but there's no sharp pain when I press right on it (as this would be break#12 for me, I have some expertise in self-diagnosis). I'm not sure a stress fracture is even the worst case scenario - significant tendon damage can take longer to heal. Anyway, I expected to lose most of this week to recovery, so for now I'm just chalking it up to normal battle damage. If it hasn't improved significantly by the end of the week, I may have a real injury.

Pre-dawn pre-run.

Orienteering race (Woods) 2:59:05 [5] *** 19.2 km (9:20 / km) +620m 8:02 / km
24c shoes: Oroc 280 (old)

SLOC 3-hour at Hawn (1:15). I don't usually give O-meets 5 intensity, but this one was more like a running race. That's not to say there was no nav challenge, just that there was also a lot of really hard running. I really wanted this one and the first hour reflected that I was pushing too hard - several sloppy spots for around 10 minutes list. Cleaned it up after that and ran probably my best third hour ever to get the win. Planned sweep route was 19.5K; left off #1 which was to be second from last.

Map with route.

Orienteering (Woods) 55:00 [2] ***
3c shoes: Oroc 280 (old)

Control pickup, which kinda sucked because I had to park a ways away and run in on the road. Legs and feet would have preferred to skip it.

Note

So, we're playing Scatagories with Yaya and the topic is "Things on a map" and the answer has to start with 'A'. Yaya's response: Attack point. Full marks, little girl, full marks.

Running (Road) 33:00 [2]
shoes: Neo33

Pre-dawn pre-run.
8 AM

Running (Road) 49:00 [2]
shoes: Neo33

Longer than usual warmup since it was still pretty frost plus a short warmdown after.

Running race (Road) 17:45 [5] 2.9 mi (6:07 / mi)
shoes: Grid A2

Longview "5K". Good run, a couple seconds faster than 2011 when I had decent form. Passed a bunch of folks in the last mile to take (yet another) second overall behind some HS CC runner.
2 PM

Cycling (Road) 52:00 [2]
shoes: Bike: Cannondale tandem

CC Lake with Yaya.

Note
weight:170lbs (rest day)

Despite a rather lackluster season, I am truly thankful for how things have been going this year. I'm beginning to realize that being able to do this stuff at all is a blessing not to be taken for granted. Sooner or later, the body is going to quit. I'm glad it hasn't yet.

In to work via Waterworks/West.
4 PM

Running (Mix) 1:29:00 [4] *
shoes: Speedstar 6 (old)

Home on the powerline plus 12x200@46 as a dial-in for Friday. Sadly, even this pace felt a bit quick for 5K.

FatTire (Mix) 48:00 [2] **
shoes: Bike:Kona Hardtail

In to work via Hog's Hollow. The shower of ice pellets that commenced the moment I opened the garage door was almost enough to dissaude me from riding in. Fortunately, I went ahead because it only lasted about10 minutes and was never coming down hard. Powerline was frozen firm, but not completely solid. Hands were OK with just lobster gloves, but I guess it's not too early to put the Moose Mitts on the bars.
4 PM

FatTire (Mix) 44:00 [2] **
shoes: Bike:Kona Hardtail

Back the same way.
