Walk - Bush (Solo - Mount Sugarloaf) 3:15:00 [3] ** 13.0 km (15:00 / km)
shoes: Brooks
A day to get away from Real Estate although my agent rang me with more news whilst I was out there. Distance a guess .. somewhere between 12 and 15 km. No running all walking. Some compass work. This must be the third or fourth time I have been back here since the start of 2009 (when I got an Orienteering Map). Think this is one of the nicest areas near Newcastle with lots of boulders, creeks and views. When go solo I can head through areas my Partner would never dare go. Started from the upper car park and went mainly north-east following a creek/boulder line and then east along track until at the eastern edge of the map (near the entrance sign). Then followed the track back north-west then up another creek to check out what looked like a zipper of the map (an embankment lined with rock .... this was great walking along the bottom). Then up to the northern tip of the map. Contoured around the cliff face edge of the map before returning the the track and looping back to the carpark for a drink (2 hrs). Set out again south-east through the scrub and down into the valley to the middle west of the map (where all the creeks converge into a rocky plateau). Been here last time but then followed this down off the map for long time (losing a lot of height) before deciding it was going to take ages to come back up. Climbed cliff back up (getting a bit hot and thirsty now) then followed another creek up before taking a bearing east to return to the main road. Then about 1.5 km back along the dirt road to the carpark. Love this area. Never saw a single person anywhere on a track or in the bush.
