Orienteering race 1:30:33 [3] 6.49 km (13:57 / km) +206m 12:02 / km
shoes: Icebugs

Hurd SP Green. My route

Nice ride down to the park and back courtesy of Charlie. Good time in the woods, even enjoyed the rain from Control 4 to 6. My only race this season and I'm happy about how I did despite being lost on 4. Unusual that I am on the same course with so many of the varsity players.

Overran the mark on 1 but recovered promptly when I hit the cliff-too-far. Handrailed the marsh to 2. On 3 debated whether to avoid climb by going west but figured I was walking, not running, at that point so went up and over the hill. Maybe not a good choice. A bit confused for awhile by all the trails but kept going west and soon confirmed I was on plan for finding the trail north to the mark. Don't know how I got befuddled on 4 - didn't go far enough at first, failing to realize I need to descend many contours. Passed the flag within a few meters but failed to see it. Relocated on a wall junction. Going to 5 figured crossing the swamp would not be fun so circled the pond's north end - good choice, I think. Met Lyn and Charlie at 5 and seemed to keep within hailing distance of them for 6, 7 and 8. Knew where 9 was from last year. The rest were nominal. Spotted Charlie ahead going south over the ridge too early on 12. Beat him to 12 and he caught me, no surprise, by 13.

Jogging 46:44 [3] 4.72 km (9:54 / km) +92m 9:01 / km
shoes: 2016 Merrills

An easy walk-jog through TF on a rare opportunity from busy weeks to get out into the woods. Succeeded in not going beyond a sustainable pace at any point, thinking about the value of early easy pace on a longer course to assure finishing without total exhaustion. As Dirty Harry said, "you gotta know your limits."
