Where did you play? I hope it wasn't outside in the foul, windy weather!

Somebody once told me that badminton players have to run about even more than tennis players. Is that true?

I think you'd only ever play badminton outside if it's a social knockabout - and still any hint of wind and the shuttle veers all over the place. You really have to play indoors - we were at Magdalen College School Sports Hall, down the end of the road by St Hilda's.

Badminton and tennis are very different in running terms. There's a lot more running in tennis, as most players nowadays will just be going forward and back along the baseline (boring...). Whereas badminton is short fast movements in all directions, sudden movement and acceleration - including going backwards. I think I'm right in saying this sort of movement needs more power than just running. And badminton is the fastest of the racket sports - smashes over 180mph have been recorded - so your reactions have to be pretty good as well!!
