The North Korean guy trains & lives mostly in Japan. I think in WOC 05 he was very close to one of the finals. There MUST be more to the story than this as I imagine he would only be able to compete with government sanction - a member of one of the right families perhaps?

He is probably a Zainichi. Much like the North Korean soccer player who cried at the World Cup while the national anthem was played. The zainichi are North Korean families that have lived in Japan for generations. Taken there during the period of Japanese imperialism. They do not have Japanese ciotizenship and are unlilely to ever get it. They are sold a sanitised version of North Korea by the Noth Korean government including an education system paid for by the North Korean State. If media reports are to believed, these North Koreans very patriotic. Possible perhaps because they have never set foot inside their home country. There was an ABC Foreign Correspondent story on them a couple of weeks ago. It was quite a bizarre situation.

I can't stand long shorts. I wear them, but I don't like 'em. (I only wear long shorts because no one, and I mean no one, wants to see me in real shorts.)

It looks like the Finnish men and women (except Tero Föhr *cough* wimp *cough*) are wearing identical shorts.

Here's two of eddie's photos of those shorts. The second one is not for the faint of heart:

One/Two (arse flapping indeed---seriously don't click this one while sipping a drink or close to meal time)
