Interestingly enough, the Bloomington Parks map shows a tiny extension corridor of Tierney's Woods leading to the residential neighborhood on the south end. It looks like there might even be a vestigial parking lot. Or is it a drive way? Can't tell from the aerials. Will probably have to confirm on the ground. Perhaps one of the adventure runs could utilize this access point for variety.

...Actually the more I look at it, the more is looks like drive way. Anyways, you might want to check it out...The corridor may just be the pond....

View Tierneys Woods South Entrance? in a larger map

I also noticed a corridor of woods between Reynolds Park and Tierney running NW~SE could that be utilized? Perhaps a taped route through there? By taped route I mean you tape a course through the woods where the next tape is always easily visible from the last tape. (every 10 meters?) That way the runners find there way with no map, only by following a taped line. Real orienteering courses sometimes use this technique to guide runners on a precise line through dangerous terrain or private land. The taped route could be really fun! You could get creative and make it like obstacle course!

I can vet the 20th if you like, as I won't be in town for that one. Do you want me to do that?

O Steve!:
I think I ran that corridor one time for the reason you mention....there might even be a paved path through there for some of it...I cant totally remember but its bound by private property as I remember.....

O Steve!:
...pretty sure that is a private driveway.....

one idea I thought about at Tierney....the business across from the small parking lot on the North side could provide parking and people could walk over...I think I even asked them about it one time but did not pursue it....

Reynolds Park is pretty close.... That start/finish location seemed to work well for you last time, didn't it?

O Steve!:
yes it worked well.....the run to tierney sorts the field a bit....kinda sucks having to run uphill to the finish on roads but it does put the "run" into adventure run...

I looked at street view and that corridor does not have a paved trail....I looked at it one time but cant remember exactly what I found....some turf trails back there I believe..........

I have a look at this stuff and see what I can dig up. Yes Todd, vetting the event on the 20th would be great! Thanks!

Just checked out and did some RE license reconnaissance on the blue area on the map Todd sent. It's 8108 86th. A gigantic and beautiful piece of land and lakeshore purchased for $900,000, upon which there is no house. It's owned by a prominent Bloomington family, they live on top of the adjacent hill to the south. Cool piece of land. We are not allowed to use it for access obviously as it is private.

Now to try to figure out where this corridor you speak of is...

Finished reconnaissance on the corridor. It's got potential. Thanks for the tip!
