orienteering (Sprint) 20:00 [3] ***

Big boom on the first control cost me. I think it's b/c I declined the time trial and I haven't raced for so long. Still, good choice not to do the time trial. But it was totally just the novelty of running to the start triangle and being out of my normal routine that threw me off.

Event: JWOC 2008

running 20:55 [2]

Pre-meet with Holly. We contemplated doing the obstacle course in the middle of the field, but it's off-limits, and we decided it would be best not to end up in the Swedish military's prison.

orienteering 15:00 [3] ***

Set controls for the sprint time trial, with Boris shadowing me. He told me to keep my compass flat when I wasn't, which is what we decided was a major problem yesterday. I didn't really make any mistakes, but I was just jogging. Still, it was good to get familiar with the course, since it was actually the Swedish selection course.

with Andy, Holly, and Tori in the middle of the field. We got several strange looks from other teams, mostly when Holly and Andy were doing Spidermans.

orienteering 1:15:00 [2]

Walked a LOT. Not very much running. But I got a better feel for the woods, even if I did make a couple big booms. A lot of the confusion resulted from having some controls hung but not others. I feel a lot better about the navigation than I did yesterday!
Also tried out my O' shoes, which will work nicely in the soft stuff and rocks.

orienteering 45:00 [3] ****

Ran a course, with Boris shadowing me. He had me go back and re-run some legs, which was helpful, and we discovered that a lot of my errors are from not holding my compass flat! The contours and rock features are making more sense now.

core/legs 30:00 [3]

Did a few sets of circuit. Hillary better watch out for that pre-season plank-hold contest!

core/legs 13:00 [1]

Holly and Tori did this with me.

Orienteering (walking) 40:00 [0]

Went out with team before lunch. Reading the rock features was so tricky because sometimes rock is mapped as yellow, and boulders are mapped as knolls.

orienteering 45:00 [1] ****

Started at a part I could run through, but it was either too rocky or too technical! Ended up having to run later.

running 29:46 [3] 3.31 mi (9:00 / mi)

Ran back from the map, and more, because I didn't run much in the woods.

running 30:15 [3] 3.56 mi (8:30 / mi)
shoes: Brooks Radius #2

My last run at home before leaving for Sweden! Got to see Ali, Crowe, everyone else before I left, and I also got to run more with them than normal because it wasnt an out-and-back. At one point we hit 752 per mile. I didnt know I could run that fast right now!

aqua-jogging 1:09:03 [2]

At Wash U before running.

core/legs 13:00 [1]

with my mom before I left.
