spiked:14/18c shoes: Inov Mud CLaw 330

NATO Level C event at Kielder in Jamies Crag and Douglas Wood. After doing the trainng event the day before and helping putting controls out for the event, It may be fair to say I had an advantage but it woudn't having been that obvious after I wasted 4 mins on the first control. The area was good, felling made it tough though and legs were feeling it up the hills. Nearly missed the last control after running to the finish first. Course Length: 7.6km.

NATO Training Day at Kielder in Jamies Crag and Douglas Wood. Intended for Juniors but I went along as it was good practice for the Level C event there tommorow and I had nothing better do to. Most of the time I was putting out or collecting controls.

CLOK Level C at Brierly & Tilery Woods, Brown. Knowing Peter Bray was starting about 10 mins behind me, I wanted to try and do the whole course without him catching up. 1st control was behind the start which was cheeky/ bad planning. A lot of undergrowth slowed runningbutI was spiking a controls. I'mnot sure what anybody else's take on this is but I believe if if Cultivated Land isn't shown as OOB, you can along it, especially if the planner decides to have numerous controls where the best route choice is along the side of it. At one point though, I found a farmer who said I shouldn't be runnning there. Peter caught me up on 16/18 but I think he got distracted by me as I found it a long time before him. Knowing what the farmer had said,at the next point route choice, i went through the undergrowth while Peter went round the field and therefore beat me to the finish. Course Length: 8.79km.

Bus back to Newcastle from field course in the Lake District was set to depar at 9:30. I was packed by 8:50. I then ran into a mate who suggested seeing how far we could get up one of the nearby hills as long as we were back by 9:30. Since I had packed my tracksuit. I had to resort to wearing jeans and raincoat which was very restrictive had plowedon and nearly got to where we were aiming for even in jeans. Up in 15 minutes, down in 5 and back way before the bus left.
7 PM

Running intervals 5:20 [3] 2.11 km (2:32 / km)
shoes: Mizuno Wave Rider 14

Plan at Uni XC club training was for 20 x 200m but with a lack of people it was always doultful and when it started tippingit down, I had to stop after 10 as my trainers couldn't cope. Not a great start then to get back into the routine after 9 days doing nothing on a field course in the Lake District.

Orienteering race (JK) 23:24 [4] **** 3.59 km (6:31 / km) +168m 5:17 / km
spiked:12/13c shoes: Inov Mud CLaw 330

JK Day 4 Relays at Newtyle Hill. Competing for NATO for the 1st time and doing the Men's Short 1st leg. Easier area that the previous days but a steep hill climb to the 1st control split up the pack. No major errors, only 1 30 second error, getting distracted by the pack on a different re-entrant to the one on my gaffle. Had an amusing sprint finish wwiht another NATO member as both of us were left waiting at the hand over for our 2nd leg runners for 15 seconds. Course Length: 3.3km

Orienteering race (JK) 2:18:42 [3] **** 12.1 km (11:28 / km) +715m 8:51 / km
spiked:14/21c shoes: Inov Mud CLaw 330

JK Day 3 at Craig a Barns. Due to my poor showing the day before, my start was quite early. After hearing some horror stories about this wood, we bought the puzzle of the area to maybeget some inside knowledge of the area but it evidently didn't helped. I had two major errors with tthe GPSoverlay looking like spaghetti around control 4 and 17. My relocation tacicts desperately need improving instead of running around like a headless chicken. Apartfrom the two terribel errors I was fairy consistent and I would have been happy with my run. Course Length: 8.1km
3 PM

Orienteering (Trail-O) 51:00 [1] 1.8 km (28:20 / km)
shoes: Mizuno Wave Rider 14

Trail-O around Fiddlers and Bishops Paths in Dunkeld in conjunction with the JK. 1st time I had done a Trail-O and the technique of not taking it very seriously, assuming it was easy failed miserably with me only getting 10/22 answers right. I think I need more practice.

JK Day 2 atDunalastair. Only a middle distance event due to being in elite class. That may have gone to my head though as just ran into the forest on 1st control and wasted 5 minuntes. Had a clean run with some luck upon the way until the drinks station when maybe my body thought it was coming to the end caused the errors that resulted. Over 12 minutes of errors in the easier terrain over 6 controls ruined my run. Still couldn't beleive my brother had a worse run. Course Length: 5.1 km

JK Day 1 Sprint around Livingston. Aware that loads of people were mispunching or getting confused with legs in a straight line so didn't go out there like a headless chicken. No major errors, just some hesitation so happy overall. Course Length: 2.7km

Cycling (Road) 2:13:49 [3]

Cycled down to Haysden then to Tonbridge, then Hildenbrough, then Leigh then up and down to Penshurst. Mark lied and said we went going up Spring Hill to Fordcombe but actually we did and followed the Weald Way back to Bidborough.

Level C CHIG Event at Hainault Forest. Severely underestimated the technical difficulty of the forest so on numerous occassions hadn't taken a decent bearing and then got lost. Course Length: 7.3km
