O race 6:58:35 [3] 31.66 km (13:13 / km) +953m 11:29 / km

Combined log of my 3 days of Easter and the 2 days of the NSW champs. Revealing that the total distance I covered was 46% higher than advertised course length and climb 13.7% higher - no wonder I am still feeling tired.

Total time taken was 122% longer than OA rules on normal expected winning times (based on rules 16.9 and 16.15) for my class but some of this was self induced by a mix of mistakes (altho perhaps as a result of tiredness from long courses) and lack of bush orienteering (altho I won my course at Mt Alexander only a few weeks earlier). At least two mistakes occurred when I assumed I knew where I was on the map and therefore disregarded the detail only to find out subsequently I was in the wrong clearing - mistakes I have not made for a long time.

Strava data also showed my non-moving time over the 5 days was 50 minutes. Not sure how slow you have to go or have to be actually stopped to record this time but like others I expect spent longer than normal studying the map to work out how to proceed or how to relocate. I also had to walk (fast) on most of the courses because of the rough terrain and tiredness, especially after day 2 of Easter - plus having a soreness below my right knee never helped.

Need to also recognise that actual winning times in my class over the 5 days was a combined 33.1% longer than the rules but we did have some speedsters like O-ing and Geoff Lawford compete who have ran World Champs in the (distant) past. Time for me to move up a class I think.

Lucky I did not enter the sprint as time taken would have been even longer.
