Orienteering race 1:19:32 [5] 11.59 km (6:52 / km) +387m 5:53 / km
shoes: VJ Integrators

Southern Champs, my last stab at M50, & my 3rd silver medal!
Very tough, Devils Punchbowl & Hindhead, 8.7km, 570m !!!!! 79:32

3 pints & a curry the night before wasn't the best prep, and again I felt shitty 1st thing. Maxed out on coffee etc.

Started 4 mins ahead of Nigel Bunn, but as I was making few errors, (tho later I noticed i had made some route choice errors), I assumed he wouldn't trouble me - and about 5 controls were "lucky" - and I got lucky enough! That was blown to bits as he crashed past me just after no 16 (I'd been running 73 minutes by then!!!!), looking like a man possessed. I had no answer, and slowed to a jog before pulling myself together & giving chase, yes he helped me on the last 2 controls, & finished 4 seconds ahead on the run in. OMG! Pete Ward 73mins. As expected....

6th on course i think, 3rd M50 behind Nigel ~& Chas, and second again. Great to see Alan Velecky in 3rd (in southern champs). I'm #notawinner and #neverwillbe.

Highlight of w/e definitely last night - curry & beers in Hindhead / ! Cheered me right up after a difficult week.

Cycling 24:27 [3] 7.89 km (3:06 / km) +101m 2:55 / km

Quick cycle to see how glutes felt - OK, but not great.

Vile cold weather.

Think I may do more cycling in the future.

Running 15:31 [3] 3.21 km (4:50 / km) +17m 4:43 / km
shoes: Brookes Ravenna 8

Steady run right after ride.

Felt grot - lungs not good. Cold. Wet. Miserable. Off colour still

Either: a low virus (very low), or still in ME relapse? reckon a total break post-Southerns.

Hip/ glutes / lower back still effing awful. Cartilage wearing out? says osteo?

Note
(rest day)

Tired & slightly off colour.

Took it easy. walked to tesco & tried to "engage glutes".

Ended up walking like a penguin on a TV documentary.

Running 23:50 [3] 5.0 km (4:46 / km) +38m 4:36 / km
shoes: Brookes Ravenna 8

Steady sunny Stoke park, feeling rather better than tuesday evening.

LH glutes / buttock / back a pain, but that's "fine" as seeing osteopath very shortly.

1 PM

Swimming 25:00 [3] 0.65 km (38:28 / km)

Swim - mainly crawl & backstroke, pre-osteopath; a struggle, but worthwhile. I think. 24-26 lengths. 25m pool.

Osteopath - need to do glutes engaging / massive strengthening programs, my glutes are nowhere near strong enough. I have been told this before.... long striding long thin legs = shit, shit glutes.

plus agonising foam rolling. Plus - do Pilates. OK. Shown a starter one to do, for my bum. Was hopeless at it. Failure.

Told if I do not comply, my running will end before I'm 60. Whilst this is a fair warning, I'm pleased to receive the news before it's too late & my career is over. But can i do the exercises? and will they really help turn this arse / lower back pain around? Let's see .....

Note

Cycled to Bloc, bouldered for a fair while, cycled home - climbing was OK, got up some problems with help from others but also helping others. Fun!

Head still poor in the morning, climbing seems to have helped.

I know what has happened here, and it's not good news, but that's life; specifically, it's my life. I need to deal with it & make adjustments.

Running 57:40 [3] 8.36 km (6:54 / km) +174m 6:15 / km
shoes: Brookes Ravenna 8

BOK tuesday run, from White lion

Rather slow & scary in places, lots of leaves & ankle-snapping chances.

Pace easy, but legs still not working properly from Sunday.

Head feeling rotten - I think i know why.

Hmm. 90 mins race = too much for an oldie.
