Orienteering race 58:15 [4] 9.38 km (6:13 / km)
ahr:149 max:165 shoes: Inov8 X-talon 212 Black

JK Long - Pwll Du - 7.9Km
Fairly easy course, but rather more physical than expected. Had to try to avoid the roughest terrain, but not always easy to pick a line in advance.
Only real time loss was about 30s at 10 where there was an unmapped marsh to the east of the marsh the control was on. Splits suggest I may have lost time 14-15 by going all the way round on the paths, but maybe there was a decent line through the tussocks / heather going straighter.
Found it tough physically, but then so did everyone. Kept flogging away but getting pretty tired by the end. Still, the JK was the only significant gap on my orienteering CV, and one which I thought I might never get a chance to fill, so very happy with the result.

ahr:153 max:166 shoes: Inov8 X-talon 212 Black

JK Middle distance - Clydach Terrace - M55- 4.3Km 110m
Good area with plenty of detail and very few chances to ease off on the contration. However, could have been planned to be trickier. A bit more physical than I expected.
Solid run. At the time felt like I only lost a few seconds at 3, but in retrospect took the wrong route (stayed high) 9-10 (15s?) and didn't look at the compass leaving the last control (10s?). Ran hard, but didn't feel that quick. Fairly tired afterwards.

Orienteering race 14:18 [4] 3.06 km (4:40 / km) +41m 4:23 / km
ahr:154 max:165 shoes: Nike Pegasus Trail 3

JK Sprint - Swansea University.
More interesting than expected. Had to concentrate the whole time, though no particularly difficult controls.
Not fully in control over the first half, but better later. Lost 10s on 2-3 where the route I was intending to take was impassable (a map correction in the start lane, but couldn't remember that that was where it was). Didn't lose time because of the barrier but because I had to take a route I hadn't planned and then ran straight past the control. Poor route choices 3-4 and 10-11 also cost a few seconds each.

Felt reasonable physically.

Burbage Mines. Ran a couple of old courses on 1:2500 maps. Navigating well, though the scale made it fairly easy. Struggling a bit physically, but then it was pretty heathery in places, and difficult to pick good lines on the legs heading west as they were straight into a very low sun!

Orienteering 48:53 [3] 8.54 km (5:43 / km) +187m 5:10 / km
ahr:127 max:150 shoes: Nike Pegasus 37

Some sprint training in the Ponderosa area using some old courses. Fairly gentle jog there and back and a bit faster while doing the courses, but couldn't really go much harder because of the complexity. Not completely in control and even made a 20s mistake, but reasonably happy with progress.
Feeling pretty good physically.
