The fields of Thompson Farm:
A mix of crunch and softness. Generally slow except the out and back in the woods. Chatted with the UNH snow samplers and gave them my insights about varying snow conditions. They were testing a drone that had Lidar and some other surface reflecting device. (surface color)

Yesterday's aborted expedition retried.
Used the Rossies backcountry boots. Started at 22F ended at 38F. Hardpacked fast in places where the trails have had some good use, nice and smooth on the new 2 inches, but sticky and slow towards the end.
Some nice gliding around the fields by Thompson House - saw Jenn's three snow depth measuring plots.

I planned to explore the farther out trails. First it was strenuous "trail-breaking through T's field. To my surpise a skitrack appeared from the woods after the field - Nice easy ski after that. J's grooming extended to these trails as well (I am sure now it is J's doing). This nice ski was cut short as I ended up with a delaminated sole on my right boot at mile 1.75. Still skiable after that, but with caution! Any backward gravity shifting would have catapulted me onto my butt !! So I bailed out to the nearest road (Surrey).

Another go-around on the Tele skis. I started making new tracks on the wide trails - very far on the side. Just because it was so easy. Any off-trail terrain with minimal underbrush is skiable, almost as fast as on trail. Fabulous!
